We were lucky to catch up with Adam El-Hosseiny recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Adam, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
My mother and father always lead the labs of some of the most renowned and prestigious hospitals in New York for over 20 years. When they moved down to South Florida, they noticed a large gap in the diagnostic space; which was same day results, painless blood draws and exceptional customer service. They decided to open a diagnostic lab that could provide these services to the community. Once a patient or physician used Access once, they would never use another lab again!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into the industry at the age of 13 to help my mother and father with their start up. Never did I think this would be the beginning of a 22 year run that has completely shaped my life, career and experience in business. I learned how to engage with clients, sell, manage, lead, strategize and much more at Access. We have core values within the company and customer facing; we always sell on value and not price. Some of our solutions are:
1. 50% less blood per patient
2. Next day results – as opposed to 5+ days
3. White glove service to keep our physicians focused on patient care.
I am most proud of how our team has been able to evolve over time and adopt the best business practices to support our volume and growth. Managing over 5,000 clients is a lot more challenging that one would think. With this level of growth comes efficient systems, lean processes, robust training and strong communication mechanisms. I am beyond proud to have been a part of this historic evolution.

Have you ever had to pivot?
The largest pivot we’ve endured as a company was during the COVID-19 Pandemic. It was March 16th when we noticed a significant dip in our volume of customers and the Pandemic had just begun. At that point, our team had to shift focus and resources from routine lab testing to disaster relief and COVID-19 testing. Beginning on March 16th, we had to source swabs and reagent from overseas, build a website to support covid testing with all the science and supporting data, hire a larger workforce, expand our facility to keep up with demand and begin testing nationwide by April 1st.
At that point, we were one of the only labs in the country to deliver COVID results within 24hrs which allowed us to gain recognition from some of the largest organizations, municipalities, schools, universities, hospital systems and much more. This ultimately put Access in the spot light and set the stage for us to showcase all of our solutions.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that “no” means “no”. Being in the lab business, you must have thick skin. It’s highly competitive, it’s dominated by the two largest labs in the world, and your prospects are always busy. Therefore, when you are cold calling or visiting a prospects office, you will usually be rejected, hung up on, or told “I’m happy with my current lab”. However, this is where the sale begins. The sale begins with “No”, so we need to embrace rejection and never let it push you away from your goals.
