Hi Lauryn , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Since a young child I’ve always been into art. I loved to draw, paint and sketch etc . When I was in middle and junior high school I participated in various art shows with my school . Showcasing my work to many of people even some of my paintings were purchased . Fast forward to high school I started growing up I took a big interest with makeup. Watching many YouTube videos of artists working doing their clients . Since then I knew I wanted to do makeup, I went to college . During that time I practiced on my self , my roommates , when we went out to parties & when my college had shows . After going through traumatic events in school when I came back home Covid hit . This pushed me to start practicing more , buying more shades of makeup, testing different products & practicing on different faces. Once covid died down I started my business of taking clients coming up with set prices and a policy . Ever since then business has been doing very well all thanks to God .

Lauryn , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into my business by coming up with a plan that consisted of having products, tools etc . I service to all women of color . I offer services of full makeup looks from soft glams to dramatic glams with color . I love my clients so much from my loyal babies to some I see once in a while, every month to every other month I provide coupon codes for them to use . I’m different from other makeup artists because I’m very understanding, professional and consistent. When my clients come sit in my chair it’s a luxury it’s all about them I always want them to feel like their problems are gone . The 34-45 minutes while they are sitting with me it’s a time to get deep we catch up , we have therapy sessions. A lot of my clients speak life into me . Running a business isn’t easy at all but staying consistent with your content, your looks , giving specials gifts will keep them coming back. I am proud that I have grown from not being able to match a shade to now looking at a tube and knowing if it will match a face . I’m happy to say that I can complete a look within 35 minutes tops . And it’s not always about speed but your technique knowing how to apply the makeup and making is last all day / night . I want my potential clients to know they a safe with me don’t hesitate to ever speak up . Being in my chair is having a great time with me . We will talk , laugh , sing and cry because we are all human . I want to keep growing in the artistry field .

How did you build your audience on social media?
I’ve built my business through instagram , TikTok and facebook. You have to stay consistent that is the key . Always promote yourself even if no one reposts or share your content. There will be someone who is going to see it . Make sure your work looks clean less is more and try to shy away from using filters . Engage with you audience as well do polls , ask questions etc.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best new way for my to gain new clients is content but also offering discounted services. When people see that you have a sale or promotion they love that . It attracts people they will tell others as well
