We recently connected with Jeanette Ivey and have shared our conversation below.
Jeanette , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success, to me, is a mix of resilience, intention, and staying rooted in your ‘why.’ It takes being relentless in your growth, honest in your craft, and grounded enough to handle the highs and lows without losing your spark. You have to be willing to evolve — in your business, your artistry, and your mindset. For me, it’s not just about building something beautiful — it’s about creating an experience, holding space for others, and trusting that the energy you put out will always circle back. That’s the magic. That’s the work.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Jeanette Ivey — artist, educator, entrepreneur, and the founder of Ivey Artistry Studios in Raleigh, NC. I specialize in permanent makeup, with a focus on hyper-realistic nano brows, lip blush, lash line enhancement, and I also train aspiring artists through my education platform, Muse Academy. But beyond the services and certifications, I’m building something deeper — a space that celebrates beauty, confidence, creativity, and growth.
I got into this industry out of pure passion for art and transformation. I’ve always been drawn to things that are both expressive and precise — and cosmetic tattooing was the perfect fusion of both. What started as a solo journey quickly evolved into a full studio that now houses multiple artists, educators, and brands. We’re not just offering beauty services — we’re cultivating a community.
What sets my brand apart is the intentionality behind everything we do. Whether it’s a brow appointment or a five-day certification course, the experience is infused with care, artistry, and empowerment. I meet people where they are — clients and students alike — and help them tap into the most confident, elevated version of themselves. That’s the part I’m most proud of.
At Ivey Artistry, we don’t just enhance features — we hold space, shift energy, and create lasting impact.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
There have been a few moments in my journey where resilience wasn’t optional — it was the only way forward. One that stands out was when I transitioned from being a solo artist to running a full studio. I had to navigate hiring, mentoring, and managing people while still holding the creative and emotional weight of my own brand. There were growing pains, of course — not everyone aligned with the energy I wanted to cultivate, and I had to make tough calls to protect the environment I was building.
But I never wavered from my vision. Even when I was misunderstood, even when it would’ve been easier to shrink or people-please, I stayed rooted. I believe that’s what true resilience is — not just bouncing back, but standing firm in who you are while everything around you shifts. I’ve learned to pivot with grace, lead with heart, and trust that every challenge is just clearing space for alignment.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was the idea that I had to do everything alone — that being independent meant never asking for help. In the early stages of my career, I wore burnout like a badge of honor. I thought if I wasn’t grinding non-stop, I wasn’t doing enough. But that mindset wasn’t sustainable, and honestly, it was rooted in fear — fear of being perceived as weak or incapable.
It wasn’t until I began building my studio and leading others that I realized true strength lies in collaboration, delegation, and receiving support. Letting go of control wasn’t easy, but it gave me space to grow in ways I never could’ve on my own. Now, I make decisions from a place of alignment, not exhaustion. I’ve learned that asking for help doesn’t make you less — it makes you ready for more.
