Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Indya Williamson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Indya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
The Original plan was to do 20 years in the Navy , I joined at 19 and was already half way there. I was deployed for a year and once I returned I got super sick with a rare muscle and lung disease they linked back to my deployment, ( antisynthetase syndrome, polymyositis and interstitial lung disease) I figured well there goes my military and law enforcement dreams. So I thought what else really interests me? Skincare!!! I’ve always had a fascination with skin and healing so I went ahead and got my license in Esthetics and Manicuring. I got it at a weird time around when COVID was coming about and people were still iffy about being touched and being close to others so in the beginning it was slow, Iam now on my own solo in my own suite and it was a little scary at first but I absolutely love it !
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I came up with the name Bella Bare Esthetics, I want people to leave me feeling beautiful bare, in their own skin without the extra makeup and enhancements , to embrace their natural beauty and feeling confident and comfortable in their skin and within themselves. I offer a great variety of services , from Hydrafacial, back and underarm treatments, acne and aging, lashes, waxing, manicures and pedicures. I also formulate some of my own body products such as scrubs, soaps and body butter as well as sell retail from the companies I use for my services like Circadia! I make candles as well! What sets me apart from others is Iam very passionate about what I do , I further my education to better help my clients and teach them how to treat their skin in between facials and waxing. I absolutely love what I do and I’m great at it.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Before going solo I worked as a correctional officer full time and would only be available for my clients on my off days , the plan was to work and save up and initially go off on my own and build up my clientele and eventually quit the prison.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
I believe some of the key milestones for me were consistency with marketing and getting people interested in skincare, it’s still a bit of a struggle but I’m getting better at it. I’m full time now and it’s only been a few months and times I do think about going back to work because it does get a little scary but I’m hanging in there!
