We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dev Fisher a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dev, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission began with a deep understanding of what it means to navigate youth without a map—especially when your identity doesn’t fit neatly into the categories the world expects. As a non-binary person, I’ve experienced the ache of invisibility, the power of validation, and the urgent need for affirming spaces. I know firsthand how critical it is for young people—especially those questioning or exploring their identity—to feel seen, heard, and supported by the people in their lives.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Creating this resource wasn’t about becoming an expert or building a brand—it was about filling a gap I saw too clearly. I work full-time in IT and App Support, a world focused on systems, solutions, and helping people troubleshoot problems. But outside of work, I’ve always carried a different kind of purpose—one rooted in lived experience, identity, and compassion.
As a non-binary person, I know what it feels like to search for understanding and not find it. I’ve witnessed how often non-binary youth are left without the tools, language, or supportive voices they need—especially from the adults around them who want to help but may not know how. I didn’t set out to write a book, I just wanted there to be more. More understanding. More clarity. More care. More resources.
This project was born from that simple truth: sometimes we create what we wish we had.
I’m not a counselor or activist by profession—I’m someone who believes deeply in the power of information, empathy, and representation. I saw a need, and I felt called to respond in the best way I knew how: by creating this resource.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal has always been centered around one thing: helping non-binary youth feel less alone, more understood, and more supported.
Growing up as a non-binary person, I know what it feels like to search for representation, for language that fits. I didn’t always have that. And even today, so many young people are still navigating a world that often doesn’t make space for who they are.
This resource is for them. It’s for the youth who are questioning, discovering, or embracing their identity—and wondering if anyone sees them. It’s for the ones who are trying to find the words to express who they are, and who need the people in their lives to meet them with openness, not judgment.
I may work in IT by day, but this work comes from the part of me that deeply cares. I didn’t write this because it was my profession—I wrote it because it was personal. Because I wanted to create something I wish had existed for me, and for so many others who are still trying to figure it all out.
My goal is to offer a resource that reminds non-binary youth they are valid, valued, and worthy of support—and that there are people in their corner, even if they don’t always see them right away.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of creating this resource has been the possibility of making a real difference in the lives of non-binary youth. Knowing that this work might offer someone clarity, language, or reassurance during a time of uncertainty is what makes it all worth it.
It’s about giving young people something to hold onto when they’re figuring out who they are—something that affirms their identity and reminds them that they are valid and worthy of respect. If this resource can help even one person feel more understood or less isolated, then it’s done its job.
Creating something that speaks directly to their experiences without judgment, assumptions, or pressure, has been an honor. Being able to offer support, even in the form of words on a page, is one of the most meaningful things I could contribute.
