Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Isaacson.
Hi Lauren, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began teaching after being thrown to the wolves, so to speak during a brief trip to Cambodia. I arrived willing to help local community members, but was not ready to work with kids. They told me that I was going to teach English because I was a native speaker, to a class of 3-6 year olds. Wow! I was in tears after the first hour. The next day, they asked me to try working with the older students from 7-12 years old. I found this one little boy that was doing things a little differently and their books told them to learn verbs. We got up out of our seats and began acting out these verbs in the back of the room. The kids loved it, but so did I. After this trip, I returned to get my Masters of Education and then later my Masters in Teaching Special Education. I taught in classrooms in Virginia, Thailand, and Maryland before leaving the traditional classroom in June of 2024. After seeing how the school systems have changed, I saw a need to support parents and students who need support in schools all across the world. That is where the idea of The Tutoring Hub: Tutoring & Advocacy came to be.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Every entrepreneur has challenges with starting a business from scratch and I am no different. However, Within only a few months of starting my business, I moved to a new city in a different state without knowing anyone. I also took on the task of writing a book just after 6 months of beginning a business. The book just released in early February 2025, which is exciting!
However, one of the biggest challenges is that fact that people either don’t understand what we do at The Tutoring Hub: Tutoring & Advocacy, or are nervous about asking for our help. Often times, schools hate advocates and that is not what we want to be known for, we want to help bridge the relationships between parents and schools. My personal goal with this business is to help educate families to become their child’s strongest advocate and support teachers and staff in the process of understanding special education.

What makes you happy?
To be honest, a lot of little things make me happy, maybe a favorite song is playing when I walk into a store, or someone compliments my outfit, even a sip of a good cup of coffee is enough to make me happy. I am very grateful for the experiences I have had overseas in the last ten years of my life because they have taught me the value of slowing down and enjoying life. Yes, I may be attempting to build a business, but that doesn’t mean I need to lose myself in it in order to be successful and happy. It is actually quite the contrary, I find my work rewarding, but I also get to spend a lot of my time doing things I enjoy because I am not always working. That fact alone, makes me happy.
