Today we’d like to introduce you to Fiona Roberts.
Hi Fiona, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Absolutely! My journey started from a deeply personal experience—one that shaped my passion for health and wellness. In 2017, I became a cancer survivor after being diagnosed with ovarian and endometrial cancer at 35. That experience opened my eyes to the importance of proactive health, detoxification, and the lymphatic system’s role in overall well-being.
As I navigated my own recovery, I immersed myself in learning everything I could about lymphatic health. I trained with some of the best in the industry across the country, refining my skills in lymphatic massage, post-surgical care, and holistic wellness. I knew I wanted to help others feel their best, not just in recovery but in everyday life.
That’s how Lympha Spa and Massage was born. I started as a solo therapist, offering specialized lymphatic drainage massage, and soon realized how much demand there was for this kind of care. Over time, the business grew, and I expanded our offerings to include services like Halo Sauna therapy and thermography, giving our clients a comprehensive approach to detoxification and wellness.
Now, Lympha Spa and Massage is a go-to destination in Iowa for lymphatic health, and I’m proud of the incredible team I’ve built. We recently moved to a larger space in Clive to better serve our clients. My goal has always been to help people feel healthy and beautiful—whether they’re recovering from surgery, dealing with bloating and inflammation, or simply looking to optimize their well-being.
The journey hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has been an opportunity to grow. And now, with exciting collaborations, a growing client base, and I’m grateful for where this path has led me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I believe every challenge has shaped me and my business into what it is today. When I started Lympha Spa and Massage, I was driven by my personal journey as a cancer survivor, but I quickly realized that building a business—especially in a specialized field like lymphatic health—required more than just passion.
One of the biggest struggles was educating people about the importance of lymphatic drainage and holistic wellness. Unlike traditional massage, lymphatic work is still not widely understood, so I had to work hard to spread awareness, build trust, and show people the real benefits of what we do.
Another major challenge was balancing growth while maintaining high-quality care. As demand grew, I had to expand—bringing on new therapists, moving into a bigger space, and ensuring that every client still received the level of service I built my reputation on. Hiring and training the right people has been a learning experience, and like any business owner, I’ve had to make tough decisions along the way.
There were also financial and personal challenges. Running a business while navigating life’s ups and downs—including the financial strain of entrepreneurship, unexpected hurdles, and the emotional weight of my own health journey—was tough at times. But I’ve always believed in what I do, and that kept me moving forward.
Through it all, I’ve learned that challenges are just stepping stones. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the struggles, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come. Now, Lympha Spa and Massage is thriving, we have a dedicated team, and we’re making a real difference in people’s lives. That makes every challenge worth it.
We’ve been impressed with Lympha Spa and Massage, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Lympha Spa and Massage is more than just a spa—it’s a specialized wellness center dedicated to lymphatic health, detoxification, and overall well-being. We focus on services that help people feel lighter, healthier, and more in tune with their bodies, whether they’re recovering from surgery, struggling with bloating and inflammation, or simply looking to optimize their health.
What We Do & Specialize In
We specialize in lymphatic drainage massage, which is designed to reduce swelling, support the immune system, and improve circulation. Many of our clients come to us post-surgery (such as after liposuction or cosmetic procedures) to speed up healing, while others seek relief from chronic inflammation, bloating, or sluggish lymphatic flow. In addition to massage, we offer Halo Sauna therapy, which enhances detoxification through infrared heat and salt therapy, and thermography, a proactive health scan that helps clients gain deeper insights into their wellness.
We also help cancer patients. As a cancer survivor myself, I understand how difficult the journey can be, both physically and financially. That’s why I recently started Heart of Lympha, a new charity in collaboration with Can Do Cancer, to provide free massages for cancer patients who are struggling financially. This initiative is deeply personal to me, and I’m proud to give back to those in need of support during such a challenging time.
What Sets Us Apart?
Expertise in Lymphatic Health – While many spas offer massage, few specialize in lymphatic drainage the way we do. I have traveled across the U.S. to train with the best in the industry, ensuring that our techniques are both effective and backed by the latest knowledge.
Holistic & Preventative Health Approach – We don’t just focus on relaxation; our services are designed to actively improve health. We take a proactive approach to wellness, helping our clients prevent issues before they arise.
Client Education & Personalized Care – We take the time to educate our clients on their lymphatic system and how it impacts overall wellness. Each session is tailored to individual needs, whether it’s post-surgical recovery, detox support, or general wellness.
A Safe Space for Healing – Our clients feel comfortable opening up about their health concerns because we truly care. Many come to us feeling unheard in traditional medical settings, and we provide a space where they feel supported in their wellness journey.
What We’re Most Proud Of
I’m incredibly proud of how Lympha Spa and Massage has grown—not just in size, but in reputation. We’ve become a trusted resource for people looking to take control of their health in a natural, effective way. The overwhelmingly positive client feedback and Google reviews reinforce that what we’re doing is making a difference.
Additionally, I’m proud of our community collaborations with other wellness professionals, including local nurse practitioners, holistic health providers, and fitness studios, to bring more comprehensive wellness options to our clients. And with the launch of Heart of Lympha, I’m honored to be able to give back to the cancer community, ensuring those who need care the most can access it.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Absolutely! Starting out in business—especially in a specialized field—comes with a lot of challenges, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. If I had to give advice to someone just beginning their journey, here’s what I’d say:
1. Believe in Your Mission and Stay True to It
When I started Lympha Spa and Massage, I knew lymphatic health was something people needed, but it wasn’t widely understood. There were times I had to push through doubt—both from myself and others—but I stayed focused on my mission. If you truly believe in what you’re doing, don’t let a lack of immediate understanding or support shake your confidence. Keep educating people, keep showing up, and trust that your work will make an impact.
2. Love What You Do
Running a business takes dedication, long hours, and sometimes stepping out of your comfort zone. If you don’t truly love what you do, it’s hard to keep going when challenges arise. Passion is what keeps you motivated, helps you push through obstacles, and allows you to provide the best experience for your clients. When you genuinely love your work, people can feel it, and that energy becomes contagious.
3. Be Willing to Learn and Invest in Yourself
One of the best decisions I made was seeking out top-tier training and mentorship. Never stop learning. Even if you’re already skilled, there’s always more to refine and new techniques to master. Investing in education, whether it’s industry training, business development, or marketing skills, will set you apart.
4. Surround Yourself with the Right People
You can’t do it all alone. Whether it’s hiring employees, working with a mentor, or building relationships with other professionals, having the right people in your corner is everything. I’ve learned that not every hire will be the right fit, and not every collaboration will work out—and that’s okay. The key is to find people who align with your vision, work ethic, and passion.
5. Be Smart with Business Finances from Day One
One thing I wish I had been more prepared for in the beginning was the financial side of running a business. From managing expenses to setting fair pricing, it’s crucial to understand your numbers. Charge what you’re worth from the start and don’t underprice your services just to attract clients—quality clients will pay for quality work. Also, plan for growth—you don’t want to be stuck when demand increases but you’re financially unprepared to scale.
6. Marketing Matters More Than You Think
You can be the best at what you do, but if no one knows about you, it won’t matter. When I started, I focused heavily on delivering great results, which led to word-of-mouth referrals. But I also learned that a strong online presence, strategic social media, and SEO are game changers. Don’t wait until your business is slow to start marketing—be consistent from the beginning.
7. Expect Challenges, but Keep Moving Forward
Running a business is not always easy. There will be setbacks, slow seasons, and moments when you question everything. But if you stay adaptable, keep learning, and remain passionate about what you do, you will grow. Every challenge is an opportunity to learn and improve.
Most importantly, remember why you started. For me, it was about helping people feel healthier and more empowered in their wellness journey. Whenever things got hard, I went back to that purpose—and that kept me moving forward.
So if you’re just starting out, my advice is this: Love what you do, be patient, stay focused, learn from every experience, and never stop believing in yourself. Your success is built one step at a time!
