We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nikki Kaeswith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nikki , appreciate you joining us today. What’s the best advice you ever gave to a client? How did they benefit / what was the result?
We start off by asking our clients: do you understand your audience or customers? It’s not enough to simply know them, but they must understand them. -If yes, then tell us about them. If not, then we go over the list of things our clients need to learn about them. There are important differences between knowing and understanding your audience. When you know your audience, your focus is based on research, gathering data and high-level statistics. When you understand them, you have solid insights of their needs, their goals, their behaviors, and their pain points. Then you can better analyze and interpret the data to benefit your audience and, in turn, grow your business.
Whether the project is to stage or remodel residential homes for sale, to redesign or remodel boutique hotels or restaurants, to develop a brand for property marketing, or to design or decorate the space for Airbnb guests, it is important to have a clear understanding of your target audience. The common mistakes we see when we take on a rebrand project is that our clients tell us their target audience is everyone; however, when you are targeting everyone, you end up targeting no one. The key is to keep the journey simple and don’t complicate the process by trying to target them all. Through audience research, we were able to help our clients gain direct insight from those that are part of the audience journey. The better you understand your audience, the more relevant your content will be. And the result is that our clients are able to drive sustainable, long-term business growth and success. Our advice to clients is to communicate with their audiences often to keep building, growing and strengthening the connection and relationships with them.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
At The Kae Group LLC, we offer design/decoration services for Airbnb hosts, residential clients, real estate investors, boutique hotel owners and cafe and restaurant owners. What sets us apart from others is that we first seek to understand our client’s audience, and through our design, we communicate directly to them in the language they understand. We are interested in building long-term business growth for our clients. We also encourage our clients to learn about their audience and sustain that relationship for many years to come.
One of our key accomplishments was turning The Schievner House, a 1995 2-story home, into a destination place to stay for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers. We believe in giving value to our clients first, so they pass on the same practice to their clients.
We have also partnered with Best Deal Properties (bestdealhomebuy.com) and have helped many homeowners understand their options and make more informed decisions about their properties that lead to successful outcomes for themselves and their family.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We aim to provide value to our clients by being proactive in listening to and responding to our online community. It is very important to us that our online community feels heard and acknowledged. Our advice for those just starting to build the social media presence is to understand the wants and needs of your audience. Be authentic. Create meaningful marketing content that supports your brand identity.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Being able to communicate effectively with our clients has led us to increased sales, repeat business and referrals. One key to successful communication is setting expectations and a timeline for the entire process.
