Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Viera.
Hi Ryan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been making music since I was probably 10 years old. I started out as a drummer, and that carried me throughout high school and various bands. Around that time, I wanted to learn guitar, so I just taught myself chords by learning my favorite songs. From there I got interested in writing, then producing, and now here we are.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing is as smooth as you think it is. There are always ups and downs, or times where things feel way easier than others, but I think the biggest struggle a lot of up-and-coming musicians face is cutting through the noise and standing out from the pack. It’s not always easy to do, and something I’m constantly working on improving.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the frontman of a reggae-pop band based in the Bay Area. I sing and play guitar. I also write and produce all of our songs in my bedroom studio. I think the sound I bring is more on the unique side of the reggae industry. We definitely bring a bit more of a pop-R&B type sound to the reggae world, so I always enjoy that aspect of being Lot 49.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I think people would be most surprised to learn that I write and produce the music on my own for the most part. I have a mixing an engineer, but other than that, I do 95% of the studio stuff.
