My journey is one of resilience, ambition, and an unwavering commitment to creating meaningful impact. Born and raised in Mongolia, she grew up with an insatiable curiosity and a passion for learning, which ultimately led her to explore the worlds of finance, business, and beauty. Her story is not just about personal success but about breaking barriers, uplifting others, and redefining the beauty industry through innovation and sustainability.

Her career began in finance, where she honed her analytical skills in some of the most competitive institutions across Mongolia and the United States. From working at the Ministry of Finance to a Goldman Sachs subsidiary in Silicon Valley, she navigated the complexities of global financial markets with precision. Yet, despite her accomplishments, she felt a deeper calling—one that intertwined her love for science, nature, and self-care.

In 2020, she founded Oyu Cosmetics, a brand built on the principles of clean beauty, ethical sourcing, and scientific innovation. Drawing upon her background in organic cosmetic chemistry, she meticulously crafted skincare solutions that were not only effective but also aligned with her values of sustainability and cruelty-free practices. The brand quickly gained recognition, earning EWG Verification, Vegan, and Leaping Bunny Certifications—hallmarks of its commitment to purity and safety.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

Every journey has its challenges, and for me, the road to success was anything but smooth. From navigating cultural shifts to breaking into highly competitive industries, she faced numerous obstacles that tested her resilience and determination.

One of the biggest challenges was transitioning from a career in finance to the beauty and wellness industry. Having built a strong foundation in global financial markets, shifting to cosmetic chemistry and product development required her to start from scratch—learning new skills, obtaining certifications, and proving herself in an entirely different field. Despite these hurdles, she embraced the challenge, earning a diploma in Organic Cosmetic Chemistry and dedicating herself to creating products that merged science with sustainability.

Entrepreneurship came with its own set of struggles. Building Oyu Cosmetics from the ground up meant facing financial constraints, sourcing high-quality ingredients sustainably, and competing against established beauty giants. She had to navigate the complexities of product formulation, supply chain logistics, and marketing while ensuring that every product aligned with her vision of clean, ethical beauty. There were moments of doubt, moments when the weight of responsibility felt overwhelming—but her passion for empowering others through self-care kept her going.

As a woman entrepreneur, Tugs-Oyun also encountered gender biases in the business world. Breaking into leadership circles, securing funding, and proving her credibility often meant working twice as hard. For me, risk-taking is not about recklessness—it’s about calculated courage. Every major achievement in my life has been the result of stepping outside my comfort zone, embracing uncertainty, and trusting in my vision.

One of the biggest risks I took was leaving behind a stable career in finance to start Oyu Cosmetics. I had built a strong professional foundation working at top global financial institutions, but my passion for clean beauty and sustainability kept calling me. Transitioning from finance to cosmetic chemistry meant diving into an entirely new industry—one that required deep scientific knowledge, product development skills, and business acumen. I invested years in studying organic cosmetic chemistry, product formulation, and ethical sourcing, all while balancing my career and responsibilities.

Another significant risk was launching Oyu Cosmetics as a self-funded brand, competing in an industry dominated by major corporations with limitless marketing budgets. Rather than taking shortcuts or following industry trends, I chose to build the brand ethically and sustainably, ensuring that every product met the highest standards of safety, efficacy, and environmental responsibility. There were moments of doubt—financial challenges, market uncertainties, and the immense pressure of proving that a clean beauty startup could stand out—but I knew that meaningful change requires bold decisions.

Risk-taking, to me, is about having the vision to see what others don’t, the resilience to navigate obstacles, and the courage to keep going even when the outcome is uncertain. It’s about believing in your mission so deeply that failure is just another lesson on the road to success.

Whether it’s launching new products, expanding into global markets, or integrating AI-powered skin analysis into our brand’s future, I continue to take risks—not for the sake of risk itself, but because growth, impact, and innovation demand it.

Would I do it all over again? Absolutely. Every risk I’ve taken has shaped me into the entrepreneur, leader, and changemaker I am today.
