Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Elder.
Hi Rachel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey to being a couples therapist started in my adolescence when I became a huge fan of romance and rom-com movies and began writing love stories where I was the main character. I didn’t know I would become a couples therapist but I dreamed of being a wedding planner, a relationship guru or a matchmaker.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My road towards my career was not too difficult—I think the biggest challenge was not listening to my gut instinct and dream of wanting to work with couples and taking a detour to working with other populations as a therapist. Every experience shaped me, but I found the most joy once I began to believe in my dream and pursue it whole heartedly.

I run a small group practice focused on serving couples and individuals dealing with relationship challenges in Washington State. We are a team of three who all have a passion for couples work. We love creative opportunities and approaches to working with our couples and each team member is dedicated to cultivating their craft and deepening their skill set.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I have been a people person my whole life. I loved spending time with friends and struggled with wanting to help them or solve their problems when they were upset or having a hard time. My friends would turn to me for dating advice despite my little dating experience and I loved it. I have always been servant-hearted and wanting to support others. I am a dreamer and loved coming up with creative and playful ideas for navigating my life.
