Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerad Linnell.
Jerad, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I currently the co-founder of a grilling/kitchen utensil company called GrillSpec. We patented our flagship utensil which is a multi use basting brush. We’ve had positive reviews gaining momentum daily. It all started with my passion of cooking for my loved ones. My network of friends and loved ones has grown and have been always told to start catering. I never really wanted to be so committed to cooking that it became my everyday job. One day an idea popped in my head of how to create a basting brush that also serves as a ladle. After some intense planning and testing the Tomahaük was born and is currently for sale on line and in some mom and pop retail stores.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. It seems like as soon as we get positive momentum, something happens to derail any progress. There is always so much to learn and we keep pushing forward despite any pitfalls. Many of these struggles have also led me to meeting some amazing people that have played a big part in our positive momentum. I guess the moral of the story is to keep pushing…someone will be there to pick you up!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Cooking is an amazing way to express oneself creatively. There are so many techniques and practices out there that one could spend a lifetime trying to learn them all. It gives you a chance to use some of these practices and put your own thumbprint on it to create something totally different. I always like challenging myself and learn different ways of making stuff. I love to watch others practice their craft and mix some of their skills in with my own. I’m never afraid to ask questions and not too proud to learn something new.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Sheer joy comes from making progress and learning new aspects of the cooking industry. There is so much to learn and I try to absorb as much of it as I can. All of that leads me to my happy place…cooking in my backyard. It is there that I am always at piece. It gives me a moment to put all of my heart and soul into what I am cooking. I am able to temporarily break free from the day to day stresses and offer something amazing to my family and friends. It is the ultimate stress relief and I can never get enough of it!
