Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridgette Washington.
Hi Bridgette, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
At the tender age of ten, I took a high interest in hairstyling. I had always taken pride in creating with my hands from drawings to even my penmanship during that time as a lefty. The more I visited various salons and watching my mom do hair and get hers done, the more my interest grew. I began collecting my guinea pigs in the low income housing area we lived in at the time which started with the young school aged girls whose mothers couldn’t afford to get their hair done professionally. I went from that to assisting in various salons which enabled me to learn a lot and get hands on training prior to attending school and acquiring my license. I then worked as a stylist in various salons and then acquired my own about 15 years ago.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was not smooth but it was fair. I got out of it what I put into it. I had to learn discipline, consistency, and balance. That is the only way to develop good work habits, attract a quality clientele, and avoid burnout.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a cosmetologist and owner of a salon and hair product line. Creatively, I specialize in and I’m known for growing healthy natural hair and pixie cuts! I am most proud of my work ethic. I always try my best to create an experience that is worth the price. What sets me apart is the fact that I am a beautypreneur that prides myself in doing business across the board. I set healthy boundaries and show up for my clients. However, I require them to do the same because it is a partnership.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
There are entirely too many to name being that it has been thirty plus years. However, every stylist that allowed me to shadow them and work in their salon to the guinea pigs and teachers are all apart of my success and I pay homage to them from the depths of my heart!
