Today we’d like to introduce you to Keshona Harris.
Keshona, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Certainly! Here’s a concise overview of my journey:
I began my career in education and leadership development, dedicating years to mentoring and empowering others. However, after experiencing consecutive layoffs in 2021 and 2022, I realized the importance of building a legacy for my family, especially my son. This realization led to the creation of Heiress Marketing, a full-service creative agency focused on helping businesses and non-profits authentically tell their stories. Today, we specialize in graphic and web design, digital marketing, brand strategy, and content production, committed to creating lasting legacies for our clients and community.
This summary encapsulates the key milestones and motivations that have shaped my path to founding Heiress Marketing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has definitely not been smooth—but every bump has shaped who I am and what Heiress Marketing stands for. One of the biggest challenges was navigating the transition from employee to entrepreneur after being laid off twice. It forced me to face uncertainty head-on while still showing up for my family and believing in a vision that hadn’t fully materialized yet.
As a Black woman in leadership, I faced my share of glass ceilings and performative support. I often found myself doing transformational work inside systems that weren’t built to sustain or value it. That kind of emotional labor takes a toll, and it made me realize I needed to create something that honored my work and my worth.
Another struggle was learning how to scale a business while unlearning the belief that I had to over-deliver just to be seen. Building Heiress Marketing required not just strategy and creativity, but a deep level of healing—releasing survival mode and stepping into legacy mode.
The journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been real, purposeful, and empowering. Every challenge became a lesson, and every lesson brought me closer to building a business rooted in authenticity, impact, and liberation.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Heiress Marketing, we specialize in transforming stories into brands that resonate, inspire, and build legacy. We are a full-service creative agency, offering brand strategy, digital and social marketing, content production, graphic design, and web development. We work primarily with purpose-driven organizations—non-profits, small businesses, and cultural institutions—who are ready to elevate their impact and reach.
What we’re known for is storytelling with soul and strategy. We don’t just create visuals—we listen deeply, dream big, and produce work that aligns with our clients’ values, missions, and future goals. Every project is a balance of emotional intelligence, cultural awareness, and creative excellence.
What sets us apart is our commitment to legacy building, particularly for Black-led and community-centered organizations. Our work isn’t about vanity metrics—it’s about helping our clients create meaningful connections and long-term value. We serve as both creative partners and brand architects, helping people express their vision with clarity, confidence, and beauty.
One of the proudest moments in our journey was helping to tell the powerful story of Gian Durand and James Carter, the first Black Queen and King of the Krewe of Alla in New Orleans’ Mardi Gras history. Their historic crowning was more than a ceremonial moment—it was a breakthrough in tradition, culture, and representation. Through branded content, storytelling, and creative direction, we helped them share their narrative with the world, leading to national recognition, including a feature on The Today Show. Moments like that reflect what we do best—elevating untold stories with intention and excellence.
We’re also proud of our work with Brothers Empowered to Teach (BE2T), whose rebrand and visibility campaign helped them land features on national platforms like The Today Show, Tavis Smiley Radio, and more.
At Heiress, we’re not just building brands—we’re creating visual legacies. And we’re doing it boldly, strategically, and with heart.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is watching purpose come to life—whether it’s through my own work or in the transformation I witness in our clients. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about helping someone see themselves clearly, own their story, and step into their power with confidence. That’s where the magic is for me.
On a personal level, being a mother makes me profoundly happy. My son is the heartbeat behind everything I do. Knowing that I’m building a legacy he can be proud of keeps me grounded and motivated. I want him to grow up seeing what it looks like to live a life rooted in creativity, courage, and purpose.
Creatively, I’m happiest when I’m in flow—writing, designing, ideating, storytelling. That’s when I feel most connected to myself and the people I’m creating for. It’s more than work—it’s a calling.
Ultimately, happiness for me is about impact, alignment, and legacy. When I’m helping others build theirs while building mine? That’s joy.
