Today we’d like to introduce you to Kadra Nevitt.
Hi Kadra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My start was actually as a teenager creating pencil works and custom portraits as I traveled to rodeos and fairs selling prints. I am re-entering the western art scene now as a pastelist.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t think anyone has a smooth road. Plus those bumps teach us and we learn tenacity.
I have struggled with imposter syndrome quite often which held me back from entering shows and putting my art out there. As I’ve grown and gained more confidence I’m stretching myself both artistically and my comfort zone in areas like teaching, entering more and more juried art shows and growing myself both artistically and my with my commission audience.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create western, portrait and landscape art using pastels.
My specialty is a soft realism, using simple western scenes. I use mostly natural light, and really focus on capturing light, shadows and the beauty of the natural world we live in.
I am most proud of my sunrises and sunset pieces, and having people stop as they walk by a piece and say “ wow I love that “, people bless me so much!!
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I think the most important thing is that we can never take anything for granted! Both professionally and personally. Live with joy in every single moment!
