We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sade Ogunsola a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sade, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I came up with the idea to launch my brand development agency remnant144 after talking to frustrated working professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs. So many of them wanted to start a business but had no idea where to start. And because they had no idea where or how to start it would discourage and hinder many of them from getting the ball rolling and even attempting to launch a business. That’s when the light bulb went off in my head. I decided to put all of my knowledge and years of small business experience together to help others get started on their own projects. I have been working in small business, specifically e-commerce for the past 10 years and realized that this type of expertise and accomplishment is sought after by so many people. And what may come easy to some people can seem like a struggle to the next person.
What sets me a part from my counterparts is the fact that I offer a unique approach to mentorship because when I first got started in business and utilized digital marketing, social media had literally just started truly taking off and changing the world landscape. Social media changed not only the business world but the whole entire world in general with how us humans communicate with each other and perceive current culture. So now in the modern times of today, I have been able to navigate many businesses throughout this shift in society and I know exactly what works and what doesn’t. I save a lot of my clients the headache of easily avoidable trials and errors. As wisdom suggests, in any industry where you are a newbie you will go through many learning curves. However, with my concise business mentorship at remnant144, I help my clients navigate the murky waters of oversight so that they can get to seeing the immediate results of success in entrepreneurship that they seek.
Sade, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
If this is your first time coming across me, let me take this time to give you a brief walk through of what my businesses and I do on a daily basis. So to start off I must mention that I love helping others and connecting people to opportunities and resources. It’s innately who I am, so most of my businesses and projects throughout my life and career have consisted around that. As mentioned previously I am the founder of the brand development agency remnant144. At remnant144 we specialize in helping people tell their unique stories and launch their dream brands. Our services include graphic design, logo development, branding, web design, product packaging, research and development and event planning & pop-up shops. In addition to that I am also the founder of the health brand Meshed Earth. At Meshed Earth we sell vitamins, supplements and herbs to help novice health & fitness enthusiasts and people who are new to the lifestyle of conscious health & wellness. We encourage and motivate our customers to embark on a journey of healing and limiting unhealthy and harmful foods in their lifestyle and way of living. So far since we’ve launched in 2024, our top 3 best-selling products is our Super Greens protein powder, Sea Moss gummies and our Liquid Chlorophyll drops, which can all be purchased on our website at www.meshedearth.com.
I am currently working on a few other businesses and creative projects, but most lately my time has been spent mentoring and coaching others to launch their dream businesses. I am a leader, creative visionary and entrepreneur at heart who has a knack for fueling creative ideas and ultimately bringing them to life. I look forward to continuing to help nurture aspiring entrepreneurs and creatives who simply just need partnership and direction.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience on social media by just being myself. I know it might seem cliche but this is the best and most easiest way to reach people and fast. In this digital age there can be so many clout-chasers and people who don’t truly care to connect with others in real life, but I know that there is power in community and unity. By having a social media platform we have the power to truly help change people’s lives for the better. I know you’ve seen the viral stories where someone sets up a Go Fund Me page to help someone out in their circumstances and then the next thing you know that persons life is completely changed due to the outpouring of love from people all around the world.
My best advice to someone looking to grow your platform is to just be yourself. Be the person who The Most High made you to be. You will attract your supporters and your audience this way. Through your honest storytelling and unique individual background, your audience will not only be captivated but they’ll also be inspired. We each have a unique super power to help change the world. Let’s not take it for granted.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
To manage a team and maintain a high morale you have to be a great communicator and teacher. Lead by example with strength and attention to details. If you say that you are going to do something then you have to do it. And if things change, which they will a lot of times, then simply express this to your team and be timely with your message. Don’t waste people’s time. Your employees, interns and volunteers, etc have a life outside of your company. Be empathetic and aware of your impact on others and how you look to your team. Don’t complain to your employees about outside life as they are not your therapist. Maintain a professional distance with your employees yet still be relatable and available to their needs as your subordinate and team member. Lead with kindness and understanding and you will see sustainability, loyalty and a high turn-over rate in your team. As a leader you have to balance not being a push over, but also not being too tough and inflexible. Lastly, have fun with your team. Smile and tell a joke sometime. Life is hard enough and working for a small business is not for the faint of heart.
