Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Passion Diamond. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Passion thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
Honestly, I wished I put all my eggs into my craft sooner. But as the years continued and the situations I’ve faced continued, I learned so much about myself, what I loved, and who I do this for. I had to realize that I needed to put myself first. I was always the one helping everyone else around me that I forgot how to help myself. I was trying to do for everyone around me and wasn’t doing for myself. I made my first own pair of custom sneakers about 2 years ago. Before hand I didn’t even get to really wear my own creations besides the hand painted hats. But even then, so many people started doing the same thing and even someone close to me copied from my art. So I had a lot of growth with my artwork, as well, to figure out different techniques and styles that’ll set me apart from everyone else.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
A smile. It’s different when it comes from yourself. When you are proud of your work. But, when I create artwork for my clients, and I present them with that finished piece, the smiles, the reactions, even the tears shed, is the reason I still keep going. There has been more than one occasion where I wanted to give up because I felt as though I wasn’t as good as the next artist. But I had to learn it’s not about being just as good as the next artist, it’s about being a better artist than I was yesterday. So every time I accomplish an art piece for a client and they love it, that’s a boost to my confidence as an artist.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
This is actually funny because so many clients are amazed on how I exceeded on achieving their vision. But, the non-creatives who say “that’s easy, I can do that” do not know how much trial and errors we face. The amount of money we invest in ourselves and it can either be a success or failure. The hours put in because we are either not satisfied with the end result, or when we come up with a better idea and scrap the ENTIRE art piece. The blood, sweat and tears, so many tears, especially when we are passionate about a vision that isn’t going the right way. It’s not just about putting pencil to paper, paint brush to canvas, or styling to drawing pad. That time and effort you put into creating what you can only see and vision until it’s completed, is so much more.
