Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ke’lan Johnson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ke’lan , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I am happy as an artist its defiantly my happy place i do get paid for my music but not enough at the moment to where i can survive off of it. So i do have a regular 9 to 5 which is okay for me it helps me pay for the things i need to further m career. Sometimes you gotta sacrifice to get to where you need to be.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Ke’lan S Johnson better known as TazDaRealist. I am in the music industry I have been doing music for about 12 years now. I got in this em industry by doing a song with ShawtyDaDj and it just went from there I make all type of music I have open for various artist such as KenTheMan, NLE Choppa , JDawg , Lil Debbie , Peso Peso & more . I also have my own merch and label NuBreedEntertainment. What sets me apart from a lot of artist is that I’m versatile with music I stick to who I am and not what social media wants me to be. I am most proud of myself and how far I have come in this industry being a trans artist it was very hard deciding if music would be the same on the world we live in today. I love every supporter I have from my home in houston to the UK all I can do is continue to be me and strive for the best
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience by connecting with them a lot of artist feel when you reach a certain point your kinda “up there” but in reality these people on social media help you build that audience. A lot of my supporters have been supporting me for years cause I have always been in constant contact I have supporters that started listening to my music at age 15 , 16 who are now 23, 24 , which is still crazy to me but that’s what helps you build up your support. Just be you no matter what whether they like it or hate it there gonna share to their friends. I use to do lil things like y’all check out this fight and drop my music link cause people love drama lol so boom I had bout 100 clicks off them thinking they were gonna see drama it’s all bout how you market. I remember having lime wire thinking I’m getting the new jay z and it’s Soulja boy song lmao he was really genius !
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Transitioning from a female artist to a male artist was probably one of the craziest journey I have been on lol , and I say that cause I have done shows and contest in front of judges that shrugged me off came back as who I am today with the same song at that and dominated. I always been open and transparent about who I am and people had no choice but to respect that. Didn’t nothing change bout me but my appearance a lot of ppl didn’t understand until they started digging into who I was and when they asked questions I answered to where they can understand. See a lot of people don’t like what they don’t understand but once they understand the story change. Most people don’t find out until they already hooked on to my music and at that point it doesn’t matter I thought I would have to quit music but here I am doing better then I ever was and for that I’m proud and I helped a lot of people like me know you can be who you want and still chase your dreams
