Today we’d like to introduce you to Ming Li.
Ming, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a product designer who used to work at Shopee, the largest e-commerce platform in Asia, for more than 4 years. I felt that I had reached a bottleneck and hoped to come to Silicon Valley to experience diverse cultures and top-notch technology work environment. Therefore, I studied for a master’s degree in data analysis here and joined an e-commerce platform that specializes in plant live streaming.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has not been smooth. I hope to study business analytics because I want to be able to do a lot of data-driven design in the future, not only achieving excellence in usability but also helping businesses succeed. However, I need to deal with the pressure of coursework and job hunting at the same time, especially as I continue to improve my English during this process, adapt to a new environment, and learn many new skills. So time is short, there are many things to do, and there are also many challenges.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a senior product designer in the e-commerce field, designing products for plant lovers to have a great shopping experience and buy beautiful plants. I am most proud of my problem-solving skills, especially since I learned business analytics, which has given me new tools to define problems and helped me improve in these areas.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
For me, the most important thing is whether through my work or my thoughts, I can bring warmth and love to this world, help each individual receive positive energy, and make this world a better place. Because there are still many people suffering in the world now, experiencing many bad things. Therefore, I hope that I can become a source of positive energy and encourage everyone to make a difference together.
