Today we’d like to introduce you to La Terra Stevenson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
For me, I believe Ive always had a grandiose imagination about where life can take me. I’ve always had big dreams that I believed I could acheive. I was a young girl and would always play with beauty, and fashion constantly dressing up and bringing my imagination to life. I was one day a model, a business woman, a hairstylist etc. I could never pick an identity and “stick” with it. As I got older, as a millennial I saw so many people my age figuring out what they wanted to do after school ended. I thought of settling into a career one of the most daunting things I could imagine. Here I was, in high school still trying figure out what that thing was that I wanted to do. I just could understand how people honestly committed to just ONE thing in the early stages of life to do until they retire
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The rollercoaster life has been is indescribeable! At my age, it isn’t much I feel I cannot relate to, good and bad. I dont regret a thing, because as a person that was already considered a old soul it has made me that much more wise and aware. I have struggled with taking the road less traveled, not conforming to soceital standards, learning to forgive myself, and even with becoming okay with not being ok. I honestly live by as long as my creator chooses to open my eyes in the morning, I have another chance at whatever I’m working on. In life, when It’s over its simply over, you cannot go back. Until that day comes I am going to keep showing up for myself and providing internal grace.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Although, I do have a traditional 9-5 job in healthcare. I identify myself as a serial entreprenuer. I am constantly adding new skills and titles to my resume of life. I consider myself a jack of many trades and a soon to be master of some. I never want to limit myself but in present years I have been a healthcare employee, a business owner, a hairstylist, a hair educator, a motivational coach and speaker, and content creator. I love independent work where I can collab with people and entities that allow me to bring so much of myself to what they do! I am most proud of never allowing myself to be boxed in by a occupation. I think what sets me apart from others is a certain undertone of fearlessness when it comes to my passions. I always move with a certain energy of courage to step out and try something i am interested in whether it works out or not!
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I learned how to show up for myself over anyone else. What I mean by that is make sure you are doing for yourself in every way unapologetically. Do not worry so much about what you do or say and how others perceive it. A large part of how you are perceived cannot be controlled or is frankly any of your business. The more you focus on how others see you, the more you remain at those individuals mercy. You will continuously alter yourself to appease others and you never will. Anyone at any given time will have something to say or disagree with how you are showing up in the world. But the real tea being spilled here is “Are you happy with you?” Most people don’t ask themselves that before they think of how others see them. I mean I think of that in small details as much as large ones. For example, “Are you happy with how you handle big decisions, or are you happy with what you wore today?” Just in general how authentic are you being with yourself.
