Today we’d like to introduce you to Lanaesya Burrell.
Hi Lanaesya, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into content creation started unexpectedly during the pandemic. A friend of mine invited me to a Discord server where I found a community of supportive and creative people. I wasn’t a fan of social media at first and barely posted, but through this space, I started exploring the idea of streaming.
In 2021, I became more active in the Discord community, where a friend named Austin, who was a consistent Twitch streamer, shared his experiences and advice. He and others encouraged me to go live, and I decided to give it a try. My first streams were a little nerve wracking I’m not going to lie but exciting and my friends showed up to support me! From there, I started building my own little corner of the internet.
Gaming has always been my escape and a safe space to decompress, so it felt natural to share that joy with others. Growing up, I was inspired by beauty gurus and gaming YouTubers, and content creation has allowed me to bring those two passions together in a unique way. I focus on creating fun and chaotic content that combines gaming, beauty, and cosplay to provide a space where girls, especially Black women, can see themselves and feel seen in this community.
It hasn’t been an easy journey, I’ve struggled with balancing consistency with real-life responsibilities and overcoming self-doubt. However, the impact I’ve seen on my community keeps me going. Knowing that my streams and content can bring someone joy, make them laugh, or inspire them means everything to me.
Today, I’m proud of how far I’ve come. I’ve collaborated with amazing brands, participated in charity fundraising, and built a supportive community of over 7,000 followers across all my social media platforms. This journey has been about more than just content creation, it’s been about satisfying my inner child, giving back, and doing what I love with purpose.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every bump has taught me something valuable. One of the biggest challenges has been balancing consistency with IRL responsibilities. Content creation requires a lot of time and effort, from planning streams and creating engaging content to staying active on social media. At times, life’s demands like work, family, or personal struggles have made it hard to stay consistent, which is crucial for growth in this space.
Another hurdle has been overcoming self-doubt and imposter syndrome. In the beginning, I often questioned whether my content was good enough or if I was interesting enough to build an audience. Seeing others succeed while I was still finding my rhythm made me second-guess myself. However, I’ve learned to focus on my unique journey and remind myself that my voice matters and there’s probably someone looking for a personality like mine to resonate with.
As a Black content creator in gaming and beauty, I’ve also faced challenges with representation. It’s not always easy to navigate spaces that aren’t always inclusive, but I’ve made it my mission to create a community where others like me feel seen, valued, and celebrated.
Lastly, transitioning from not being active on social media to putting myself out there was a big adjustment. At first, I was uncomfortable showing my IRL self online, but I realized that authenticity is what connects people. Sharing my passions whether it’s gaming, beauty, or just my daily life, has helped me grow and build a supportive, engaged audience.
Through all the struggles, the support from my community has kept me motivated to just keep going and that I am on the right path. The friendships I’ve built, the messages from people saying I’ve inspired them, and the joy I see in my viewers make all the challenges worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a content creator and streamer specializing in gaming, beauty, cosplay, and lifestyle content. My work combines my love for gaming and beauty, creating a unique space where my audience can enjoy the best of both worlds. Whether it’s a chaotic Let’s Play, a Get Ready With Me, or a detailed product review, I strive to bring fun, authenticity, and representation to everything I do.
What sets me apart is my ability to blend these passions in a way that feels authentic and inclusive, particularly for Black women who share my interests. Growing up, I didn’t see many people like me in the gaming or beauty spaces, and that motivated me to carve out a space where we could feel seen. I focus on creating a fun and welcoming vibe that celebrates diversity, individuality, and creativity.
I’m most proud of the connections I’ve built with my audience and the impact my content has had on them. Whether it’s hearing someone say my streams helped them through a tough day or seeing others inspired to explore gaming, cosplay, or beauty, those moments are incredibly rewarding.
I’m also proud of my involvement in initiatives that give back, like raising over $1,000 for charity with GamesForLove and collaborating with the Twitch Women’s Guild to support the 1,000 Dreams Fund. Giving back is a big part of why I love content creation, it allows me to use my platform for something bigger than myself.
Finally, what truly sets me apart is my ability to create a space where chaos meets joy. My streams are equal parts laughter, learning, and inspiration. Whether we’re diving into a cozy game, discussing the latest skincare trends, or celebrating a cosplay reveal, I aim to provide a unique Tastic experience that keeps people coming back, especially during times where life has been getting more difficult for a lot of us.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest advice for anyone starting out is to literally just start! It’s easy to get caught up in trying to make everything perfect before you even do anything, but the truth is, you’ll learn and improve as you go. Your content doesn’t have to be flawless; it just has to be authentic to you. The most important thing is showing up for yourself and giving yourself permission to try.
One thing I wish I knew when I started is that consistency doesn’t mean perfection. Life happens, and it’s okay to take breaks when you need them. Consistency is about building momentum over time, not burning yourself out trying to stick to an impossible schedule. Set realistic goals for yourself and celebrate small wins along the way.
Another piece of advice: don’t compare your journey to others. It’s easy to look at someone else’s success and feel like you’re falling behind, but everyone’s path is different. Focus on your growth and your unique sauce, because that’s what will attract people to you.
I’d also encourage new creators to engage with their audience and build connections. Content creation isn’t just about what you post; it’s about creating a community. Respond to comments, chat with viewers, and show genuine interest in the people who support you. Those relationships will be the foundation of your success.
Lastly, invest in your mindset and peace. There will be ups and downs, and self-doubt will creep in, but don’t let it stop you. Surround yourself with people who uplift you, and remember why you started in the first place. Your passion and authenticity will always shine through.
And don’t be afraid to experiment! Try new things, even if they’re outside your comfort zone. Content creation is all about growing and evolving, so lean into the process and just have fun with it. I’ve noticed and learned people resonate and gravitate towards those they can actually see and feel like they enjoy what they’re doing.
