Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Carpio Luis Padilla.
Hi Ana Carpio, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Supramorphous started with a spark—a series of late-night conversations between two designers in Toronto who dared to dream big. We, Ana and Luis, often wondered: Could fashion do more than just clothe us? Could it reflect our values, inspire individuality, and push the boundaries of creativity? These questions fueled endless discussions and ultimately led us to create Supramorphous—a brand born from a passion for responsible design and a desire to challenge conventions.
From the beginning, our vision was clear: crafting unique, genderless designs that celebrate authenticity while staying deeply rooted in sustainability. We wanted to offer something more than beautiful clothing; we wanted to offer meaningful pieces. So, we began experimenting with natural fibers and upcycled materials, turning them into one-of-a-kind garments and accessories that tell a story of care, intention, and bold expression.
Our name, Supramorphous, reflects our philosophy—it means “beyond the limits of form or shape.” To us, this is more than a name; it’s a way of thinking. It’s about allowing creativity to grow and evolve without boundaries, embracing the unexpected and finding inspiration in beauty, nature, and the human spirit.
Our design aesthetic emerged from these values: timeless, genderless collections that we create and execute ourselves, often as made-to-order or customized pieces.
As our journey unfolded, we found ourselves on exciting paths we never imagined. We’ve showcased our work on runways at Toronto Women’s and Men’s Fashion Week, Fashion Arts Toronto, and Vancouver Fashion Week. Our designs have travelled the world, appearing at pop-up events in Toronto, Kyoto, and, Berlin. Each of these milestones reinforced our belief in the power of fashion as a bridge—connecting us to others, our environment, and ourselves.
Collaboration has been another cornerstone of Supramorphous. We’ve partnered with choreographers to design costumes for ballet and contemporary dance performances, blending movement and design to create something truly dynamic. These partnerships push our creativity and remind us of the beauty of working with others across disciplines.
At its core, Supramorphous is more than just a brand; it’s a mindset. We believe in giving more to life than we take from it. Our mantra is simple but profound: Be authentic. Be you. Wear your values and evolve.
This is just the beginning of our story, and we’re excited to see where the journey takes us next.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not—our journey has been anything but smooth. If anything, our biggest challenges have been the ones within ourselves. Supramorphous has pushed us to confront our fears, question our assumptions, and grow on a profoundly personal level. It’s been a path paved with risks—each one daunting but transformative, shaping us in ways we could never have imagined.
When we first started Supramorphous, it felt like diving headfirst into the deep end without knowing how to swim. We had a clear vision of where we wanted to go but no roadmap for how to get there. We started at the end goal. Our brand was already walking the runway before we even had a solid business foundation. Orders were coming in, but we didn’t have a manufacturing plan. Clients were excited about our designs, but we had no clue how to sell effectively. Everything was chaotic, and we had to scramble to educate ourselves—learning on the go, making mistakes, and figuring out how to navigate the complex world of fashion and business.
And it wasn’t just about learning technical skills. We had to learn how to ask for help, identify our limitations, and, most importantly, challenge those limitations. Each setback forced us to dig deeper, ask ourselves hard questions, and grow stronger as individuals.
On top of all that, we faced the challenges of working together as a couple. Sometimes, the pressure felt overwhelming, and it was easy to let frustration take over. But instead of allowing those struggles to divide us, we consciously decided to grow together. We learned how to support each other, communicate better, and balance our personal and professional lives in a healthy and sustainable way.
Looking back, those early struggles taught us resilience. They forced us to adapt, stay curious, and keep pushing forward no matter how uncertain things felt. Every risk we’ve taken has been a lesson, and every challenge has been an opportunity to discover our capabilities.
The road may not have been smooth, but it’s been gratifying. Each bump has made Supramorphous—and us—stronger, more focused, and more committed to our vision.
As you know, we’re big fans of Supramorphous. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Supramorphous, we create unique, genderless designs that let your authentic self shine—while caring for the planet. We specialize in upcycling and circular fashion and turn sustainable practices into timeless pieces.
This year has been huge for us! First, we proudly announce that Supramorphous is now a certified sustainable brand. This recognition reflects our dedication to ethical production, eco-friendly materials, and fair practices. Second, we had the fantastic opportunity to share our journey as speakers at one of Latin America’s most prominent manufacturing trade shows. We talked about sustainability and circular fashion and showcased our latest collection on the runway. It was a moment we’ll never forget!
But what we love most is collaborating with others. Whether you have a creative project or a big idea, we’d love to help you bring it to life. If you’re looking for passionate designers who care about making a difference, let’s connect! Drop us a message at [email protected].
At Supramorphous, we’re all about creating meaningful connections, empowering individuality, and designing for a better future. Let’s make something amazing together!
What are your plans for the future?
For the future, we’ve got some exciting plans! First, we’re on a mission to spread the word and grow our community. We’re also looking to find stores around the world that share our values so we can make our pieces available to more amazing people like you.
And yes, we’re diving into the world of social media! Follow our journey (we promise it’s a fun one). Just a heads up—we’re still learning the ropes of content creation, so you might see some very creative videos along the way. It’s all part of the learning curve!
Stay tuned, and come along for the ride—things are just getting started!
