Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria.
Hi Maria, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Moscow, and it was there that I grew and developed as a tattoo artist. I have always been drawn to drawing since early childhood, and when it came time to choose a professional education after finishing school, I decided to enroll in an art college and later continued my studies at a university. This allowed me to obtain two specialized degrees: as a teacher of drawing and painting, and as a designer.
After that, I spent a long time searching for my place, working on commissioned paintings, dreaming of a career in game development, and even trying it for a while. However, I quickly realized that a strict office schedule wasn’t for me. I needed freedom, more creativity, and the ability to express myself through art.
Tattooing came into my life quite spontaneously. Initially, I had no plans to pursue this field because I hadn’t come across works that truly inspired me. However, one day I saw a Japanese koi tattoo on a stranger’s forearm, which was done very skillfully, unlike anything I had seen before. It made me realize that tattoos could be genuinely beautiful. Some time later, I decided to try myself in this profession, and I quickly fell in love with it.
Since then, I have walked a path full of exciting discoveries and, at times, challenges, but it has led me to significant results and true achievements in the profession.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was far from a smooth path. I never really had my own team, and help from others was rare. However, this mostly depended on the atmosphere in the studios where I worked. In some studios, there was a creative and friendly environment where artists inspired and supported each other. In others, there was more of a competitive spirit, which added a certain dynamic to the work. These situations became a valuable experience for me, helping me develop independence and find my own path in the profession.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My specialization has always been in creating large-scale tattoos, such as sleeves, back pieces, and other extensive projects. I enjoy working in realism and often like to add graphic elements or mix different styles. My approach to tattooing focuses on crafting not just beautiful images but tattoos with a unique atmosphere that reflect a person’s inner world.
Individuality has always been central to my work. I’ve never used ready-made images from the internet, every design is developed specifically for the client to highlight their personality and preferences. Many people have trusted me with their ideas, which has allowed me to create unique works that combine technical skill and artistic vision.
What sets me apart is my attention to both artistic quality and the overall experience for the client. For me, the process of creating a tattoo is as important as the final result. My background in traditional painting and design has provided a strong foundation in light, shadow, and composition, which brings harmony and expressiveness to my work.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
In my opinion, the most important quality for success is a combination of creativity and perseverance. In tattooing, as in any form of art, it’s not only crucial to create something unique and expressive but also to constantly improve and face challenges without fear. The ability to listen to the client, understand their ideas, and transform them into a personalized design is also a key aspect of success. Additionally, patience and attention to detail are essential, as every tattoo is not just a task but a process that requires full dedication.
