Today we’d like to introduce you to Corinne Littleton.
Hi Corinne, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was a kid, I would always say “‘I’m gonna be an artist when I grow up”, but I had no idea what that would look like.
Christmas 2006, my mom bought me my first digital camera. I really believe this is what launched me forward in my photography career. I began taking pictures of anything and everything.
Back in October of 2005, I had began learning graphic design. What started as a hobby became another extension of my business.
Because of my photography and graphic designs, I wanted a place to display them. So, of course, I began to teach myself how to design and code websites. As strange as it sounds, it was so much fun to look at these numbers and letters and characters and watch a web page come to life and function. I finally made the switch to a website builder that only requires you to drag and drop your content, but it sure does comes in handy to know how to read code.
With photography, graphic design and now website design under my belt, I began dreaming of what else I could do. I began to dream of making music and merchandise. But that did not happen at that point in time. Instead, I started to dabble in yet another hobby. Making videos.
So yes, I began to make videos and teach myself how to edit them. That was in 2010.
In 2012, people started to hire me for pictures. Word of mouth spread and my business was taking off without me trying. In 2016, I was hired to film my first wedding. I was officially operating in full bloom in my business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wish it was a smooth road. It was incredibly discouraging to see people pop on the scene after me, and become successful over night. Their schedules full, shooting at gorgeous places, and having the best equipment.
I didn’t have any help in what I did. I didn’t have hand outs or someone sponsoring me. My parents bought me my first DSLR Canon camera. But I bought programs, did research and worked for hours practicing with my camera. I bought anything else that I wanted. I saved up, worked hard and watched people run past me as I crawled.
The hardest thing for me in my business has been dealing with discouragement. It’s hard watching others thrive, when I’ve been scratching at the surface for what feels like many years. I struggle with getting new Clients, and often times Clients who back out because they can’t afford me.
They say comparison is the thief of joy. And I admit, it is. Which is why I try to not compare. Just stay in my lane, and keep moving forward. And hopefully one day, my hard work will pay off.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What I do is Photography, Filming, and Graphic Design.
I specialize in creating unique products for my Clients. No cookie cutter strategies. No presets that I throw on every single photoshoot. Nope. I start from scratch, every single time.
What sets me apart from others is that everything I make is different for each client. I take all things into consideration. The time of day, the time of year, the location, their clothes, their skin tone, their styles and personalities. There’s a lot of details that go into what a Client’s final product will look like. I’ve always done things that way, and I plan to continue to do so.
I am most proud of the fact that I give not only beautiful products, but I strive to give a beautiful experience.
I help people throughout a wedding day, I help my Clients when walking on rough terrain. I fetch food. I hold dresses so someone can pee. You get it. I try to fill in the empty spaces. It’s so much more than being a photographer, I try to help in any way I can. And when someone says “you did so much today, thank you for everything you did”, it definitely makes me feel like I did a job well done. I can leave at the end of a work day knowing I gave it my best.
How do you define success?
Man, that’s a tough question. This is definitely something I struggle to define in my life.
For me though, it’s doing what you love and being able to do it full time.
I have always had to have a part time job to support myself because I’m not there yet. So I suppose in my own eyes, I don’t feel “successful”. I am happy to say that I am living a good life. The life I want to live. I’m just not operating at full capacity. But I’m trying to. I really am.
I hope to one day do photography and filming full time. Maybe my music supports me? Or I sell enough merchandise that I can retire my parents and pay their bills.
That’s my dream. To make enough money doing what I love that I can take care of myself and my parents.
