Today we’d like to introduce you to Yarimar Valle Andújar.
Hi Yarimar, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
A little of my story with love…
I am a 36-year-old Puerto Rican woman. I grew up in a beautiful rural town, Utuado, P.R. with my parents and two of my four siblings. Since a very young age, I was a free spirit, happy and awake. I love dancing, playing sports, exploring nature, and serving among many other things. Sitting still is the last thing I like to do since I’ve been conscious. I am an animal lover, a mother of three cats, and consider myself spiritual. I identified myself as very passionate, brave, and adventurous. Strongly believe that everyone is capable of manifesting their dreams into reality, coming from a background with scarce resources and limited options. I was the first in my immediate family to earn a (bachelor’s and master’s degree) and to this day I have accomplished 12 years of professional experience offering services in different branches of social service and mental health. I live grateful for what has been my life up to the present. Although I have had many challenges, and harsh and painful transformations in the process, I continue to grow and use my learning as a tool to help others in the way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the greatest challenges I have experienced in my journey was accepting my gifts and stopping hiding to fit into a society that rejects and punishes what is out of the norm in its institutional systems. I think is very important to mention that I have participated in healing work within different modalities and continue to expand toward my best version daily. Keeping myself teachable and vulnerable to recognize what needs healing in me has allowed me to be more empathetic and authentic in serving others.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Today I work at a government institution where I offer family therapy to victims with severe trauma histories.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I recently launched myself into the adventure of offering spiritually-based therapeutic services following the call of my soul. This is a new project that takes me out of my comfort zone and invites me to come out of my shell to offer my healing tools more authentically and purely.
