We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Robin Tomamichel a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Robin, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
As a hairstylist and salon owner, my mission is rooted in more than just creating beautiful styles — it’s about helping people fall in love with their hair again. I know what it feels like to be addicted to weave, to hide behind it, and to believe it was the only way to feel confident. That experience is what drives me to educate, inspire, and empower my clients to see their natural hair as beautiful, strong, and worthy of care.
I created Ravishing Hair Studio as a space where women can experience luxury hair services without sacrificing the health of their real hair. I specialize in natural-looking extensions that are not only beautiful but protective, allowing your hair to thrive underneath. Whether it’s micro links, clip-ins, or sew-ins, I make sure my clients never feel like they’re covering up — they’re enhancing what’s already there.
My love for hair isn’t just about style; it’s about self-worth. I take pride in providing a calm, judgment-free space where every woman can feel seen, pampered, and heard. I want each client to leave my chair feeling confident, educated, and more in tune with their hair than when they walked in.
For me, it’s not just about hair — it’s about healing. It’s about showing women that they don’t have to choose between versatility and authenticity. You can enjoy extensions and still have healthy, thriving natural hair. You can look ravishing — and feel it too.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello, I’m Robin Howard, Founder of Ravishing Hair Studio
I was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and I’ve had a passion for hair for as long as I can remember. I started braiding when I was around 10 — just playing in my nieces’ hair and doing styles for girls in the neighborhood. Before long, their parents began paying me, and by the time I was 14, I was doing my friends’ hair and building a small business through word of mouth.
I started working professionally in salons in 2007, and in 2016, I opened Ravishing Hair Studio — a space that truly reflects who I am. I wanted to create a warm, welcoming environment where women feel safe, seen, and celebrated, no matter what stage their hair is in.
With nearly two decades of experience, I specialize in natural hair care and luxury extensions that blend flawlessly with textured hair. From scalp treatments and silk presses to precision cuts and seamless sew-ins, I focus on helping my clients feel confident and beautiful — whether they’re wearing their natural curls or a protective style.
My own hair journey plays a big role in the work I do. After struggling with damage from years of forcing my hair to match straight extensions, I went completely natural and committed to healing my hair. That experience shaped how I care for others — with honesty, education, and a deep belief that your hair is enough.
To me, “Ravishing” means extremely beautiful — not just on the outside, but from within. It’s the confidence you carry and the light you walk with. That’s the feeling I want every client to leave with after sitting in my chair.
I’m proud of what I’ve built, but I know this is only the beginning. I’m working toward launching a professional product line that focuses on scalp health and healthy hair from the root up. I also plan to grow my educational offerings — not just classes, but mentorship that supports stylists beyond the classroom. I’ve poured my heart into this business, and I’m excited to keep growing and evolving with it.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
For me, word of mouth is still number one. When people leave your chair feeling good, they naturally tell others — and those referrals are gold. Your work speaks for you, so you always want to leave people with a great experience, not just a great hairstyle. That energy sticks with them.
Social media is also a huge tool. If you stay true to your craft, show up consistently, and let your personality shine through, your following will grow. People connect with authenticity, and when they see the passion behind what you do, they want to be part of it. I always tell stylists: be intentional, be consistent, and take care of the people who already believe in you — because they’ll help you reach the ones who don’t know you yet.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
COVID pulled the resilience out of every business owner who was trying to survive — and I was no exception. When the shutdown happened, my salon had to close its doors, and on top of that, I was pregnant. That time was extra hard for me, mentally and financially. I couldn’t work behind the chair, I couldn’t be in the salon with my clients, and I had no idea how long it would last.
But one thing about me — I’m going to find a way. I had to learn how to pivot. I started selling hair kits that included all the products I normally used on my clients in the salon. I walked them through how to use each item so they could still care for their hair at home. I kept selling hair extensions too, even though I wasn’t physically working. That season really showed me what I was made of. It forced me to tap into other sides of my business and reminded me that I’m more than just what I can do with my hands — I’m a brand, a resource, and a whole experience.
