We were lucky to catch up with Dr. Chris Lee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Chris , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the story behind how you got your first job in field that you currently practice in.
My current “j.o.b” can only be described as learning to cook smores on the dumpster fire of my life. Making lemonade out of lemons, or whatever else you need.
At 23 years old all within 9 months, I was hit by a car and sent to the hospital, lost my best friend/Dad to suicide and found out I was going to be a surprise Dad. Soon after her birth I would be a single Dad.
Broke, broken, shitting bricks and completely utterly afraid of the thoughts in my head.
One day I Sat in a Waffle House crying into a 3am Cup of coffee as my Mom had flown into town to watch my daughter so I could “study for boards”.
Really I would walk down to the corner Waffle House in Atlanta and cry into a coffee or legal pad trying to figure out how to not hate myself or make money or all the above.
It was in that tear ridden cup of burnt 3am coffee that I got pissed at my Dad.
I needed him and he was gone. Left actually.
My free hotel ink pen and I destroyed his existence, validated why he such a horrible person. How I didn’t need him. Was better off without him.
Then like so many of us eventually come down to, I realized it wasn’t all his fault. He didn’t have tools, resources, he didn’t know who he was, why he was. He didn’t leave us behind broke and broken because he hated me, it’s because he never learned to love himself.
It was that moment that I realized if I didn’t make a change I would follow in his footsteps.
I had no tools for life and all the inevitable shit that would happen.
My life now is making tools for businesses, leadership and minds who are ready for extraordinary.
It all came from my own lack of love that I experienced pain.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I run a consulting and coaching firm called Elemental Shift Consulting ESC. We help teams, and individuals create a toolbox for mental health and emotional regulation. One day we all realize that what’s between us and the life we want is … us.
My goal is to help people realize and take responsibility for getting themselves out of the way.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Being proud of yourself is necessary to create habits rooted in self love.
Now this might sound super fluffy for a consulting firm that’s helps companies go IPO but it’s the truth.
Having an ego isn’t the same as having things you want to celebrate.
The faster you can take yourself to that point the faster you make a habit out of using inspiration instead of fear or event motivation to take action.

Let’s move on to buying businesses – can you talk to us about your experience with business acquisitions?
I buy and sell business a BUNCH.
Here’s what matters in order to have a successful business.
1. People.
2. People.
3. People.
4. Does the solution the business provides solve a problem the market want’s solved, how it wants to be solved?
5. People.
Incase you’re not getting the message 90% of the business work is on people. The rest is easy.
