We recently connected with Ashley Wilhelm and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?

About 13 years ago, it was midnight on a Wednesday Night I sat in my office staring at my computer screen. My kids were already tucked into bed, and I didn’t even get to see them that day. In our line of work, there are several nights like this that many Title Agents face. In an industry that is short-staffed and often unnoticed several of my colleagues know this seen all too well. I vividly remember picking up my kids from Elementary School the next day. I found myself staring at the Secretary at the Front Desk watching her answer phones, while she laminated name tags for the teachers. I distinctly remember thinking; I wonder how much she gets paid. Does she have summers off, like the kids? She probably leaves here by 3:30 PM every day and gets home in time to make dinner and help her kids with their Homework. I bet she even has time to do Yoga daily. What is that even like? The thought seemed so foreign to me after being in the Title Industry for so many years. I am sure we ALL feel this at some point in our careers. Whether you are Male, Female, a Parent, or have no children, every job has its sacrifices and challenges. Happiness is a choice… I choose to be happy.
As the years have gone on, I see the example we have set for our children who are now Young Adults. Our work ethic and passion for our careers have shaped who they are today. As Parents, we made sure we were there for the important memories all while teaching them, all good things in life you have to work hard for. When we started JDT Servicing, I knew we were providing a service that would hopefully eliminate some of those late nights for our clients. No one should have to feel like they must choose between their families and their careers. I wanted to change the industry by providing a service that would help Title Companies with their staffing issues and increase their success.
Am I a happy business owner? Absolutely. How can we not be? Not only is Happiness a choice but I choose to surround myself with a staff and clients who feel empowered by their ability to create their own success and happiness. But mostly because we provide a service that hopefully helps our clients grow their business without sacrificing their time with their families.
Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Nah… Not anymore. We are too busy changing lives for the better.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Ashley Wilhelm, I am a wife, mother of 3 wonderful young adults, and business owner of JDT Servicing. In 2002 I began my journey in the Title Industry by answering phones as a receptionist for a small local Title Company and since then have done it all over the years. I’ve worked for small and corporate title companies, from processing to policies there isn’t any part of the closing process I have not completed. I love my job and my passion for the business beams from within me.
In 2015 I decided to take a risk and leave my corporate job and work from home processing and closing for a smaller company. Very quickly word traveled fast, and I was asked to do the same for other companies that were short-staffed. I clearly could see that our Industry was short-staffed and needed experienced processors and closers with not enough of us to go around. One of the challenges most Title Companies also face is the uncertainty of the Market. It’s hard to keep experienced people on staff during the months when orders are low. Immediately I saw an opportunity and decided to run with it.
JDT Servicing specializes in title processing and escrow handling of your files from beginning to end. Our team has the experience needed to handle any and all Real Estate Transactions with pure professionalism. Data Entry to Clear to Close, there is nothing we can’t handle. We work in many different Software’s and with all the National Underwriters so there is no need to waste time training our staff on getting your transactions closed.
In 2021 JDT Servicing hired a new Marketing Director and rolled out affordable Social Media Packages to their Title Agents. In this industry, Social Media Marketing is KEY to success and tends to get overlooked. Elise has a passion for Marketing and it shows in her work and attention to detail and design. As JDT Media has continued to grow in success and we offer our Social Media Packages to other Companies as well.

How’d you meet your business partner?
My business partner is my Best Friend and Husband of 21 years, Chuck Wilhelm. With years of experience in mortgage lending, I asked him to join our Company full-time in 2017. We were growing at a rapid pace and needed help. Many would think this was an easy choice but I assure you, with a lot at risk if our Company did not succeed it was not. Hands down it was the best decision we ever made. He brings a level of Compliance and Brilliance to the Company that is unmatched. We are two EXTREMELY opposite individuals that have a way of operating in perfect harmony. He is the Ying to my Yang.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Our relationships and trust with our Underwriters. I am proud to say JDT has done little to no marketing. Every client we have has been a referral from our Underwriters or people we have met in the Industry over the years. Our company was grown organically and I am very proud of that. Our underwriters know we operate a business that relies on their guidance to make sure we are always in Compliance. I tell our clients all the time… Running your title company or making judgment calls is above our pay grade. We want to make sure our clients and underwriters have the final say in every situation where they are needed. We are an extension of their Company and want to make sure we operate under their Vision for the company.
