We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hikari Fleurr a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hikari , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Yes. I actually started by posting mini tutorials on my Instagram to direct people to my YouTube channel and my first couple of tutorials on Instagram went viral. I got reposted by a lot of high following beauty pages it actually all happened very fast. I woke up the next morning to a bunch of brands, wanting to pay me a lot of money for short form videos, and I could not believe it. I definitely think if I knew what I know now I could’ve sped up the process by being more intentional with my content, figuring out my niche and actually posting what my followers care to see for me.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Hikari Fleurr. I am a full-time NYC content, creator and influencer. My content consists of beauty, lifestyle, fashion, and nostalgia. My content is perfect for that girl who is a true girly girl, very feminine, into self-care, loves getting glammed & is into reminiscing—especially the early 2000s. In addition to building a community, I also partner with brands and provide them high-quality content that I post on my social media or sometimes they will post on their social media to promote their products or services. What sets me apart from other creators is that I’m super relatable. I’m super proud of myself for staying consistent, even when this industry became oversaturated and even during times of discouragement. Honestly, if I wasn’t a creative, I wouldn’t even know what I would be doing today because for as long as I remembered, I have always been creative. It’s always been a part of me.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I know this sounds cliché, but honestly consistency really is key, and I’m not talking about posting once or twice a month. If you want to see real results, you have to post every single week and ideally every single day. When I was first growing my TikTok platform I actually posted five times every single day. I also believe that you have to have the right balance of sponsored post and organic posts. You wanna post content that’s relatable to your followers, but then you also wanna post content that’s impressive to brands. &!never be scared to post trendy, low quality content. Sometimes those videos are the ones that go viral.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I knew about Pinterest, but I didn’t really use it to the best of my ability and I really wish I did. Pinterest has helped me with my fashion sense. Pinterest has literally elevated my style to the point where people go to my page for fashion inspo. And it comes in really handy when I’m trying to put together a look for a red carpet. If you don’t have a personal style and you want to create one I definitely recommend using Pinterest.
