We were lucky to catch up with Sunaina Misra recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sunaina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
Having a business is inherently challenging and like any small venture, we have a variety of hurdles to overcome so that we can navigate the complexities we face in different demographics.
Prior to starting my business, I had a regular job and while I was assisting art professionals as per my role in the companies I worked with, I believed that I could do more to help them. The artists I came across during the tenure of my employment in several establishments were struggling to create a stand for themselves in a highly competitive and dynamic industry. Both emerging and mid-career artists struggle with documentation, outreach and career growth which takes a lot of time and they find it difficult to find time for creating art. I decided to start a project to assist them with these processes so they could focus on their art. My goal was to expose the world to art from different places and diverse cultures. Narrating stories through art has always been something I loved.
As my business grew, I felt more satisfied than I did at my regular job because I could see the impact Artiste Culture was having on many lives. It is everything I dreamt of and aimed for and I’ve been the happiest business owner since.

Sunaina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My passion for creativity and curiosity about the art business was what led me into the industry. I come with an educational background in design management which has a little affiliation with art. I started out by working in various departments with all kinds of teams in art-driven startups. I worked in design, content, communications management and art consultation. Throughout my career of nine years, I came across several artists, collectors, gallerists and other art professionals who widened my perspective of how the art world works. While I interacted with them, I learned a lot about how artists struggle with navigating the art world since they lacked support and guidance and often make mistakes that led to the downfall of their careers. I believed that I could help them by offering them tailored strategies that will not only help them stand on a global platform but also maintain their standing throughout their career and attain global exposure and unique opportunities.
I started Artiste Culture as a research project to realise my mission of identifying problems that artists, galleries and collectors face. As artists continued to benefit and grow in their creative careers. Artists were intrigued by the idea of receiving tailored strategies and solutions. Over time what started as a research project flourished into a full-fledged business with a global network of 700 artists today.
At Artiste Culture, we assist artists to navigate the art world. As a part of our services, we introduce artists to new collectors and assist them with museum placements, gallery and curator collaborations and project execution. Furthermore, we also research and document potential opportunities based on the artist’s portfolio and resume. We aim to help artists narrate their stories to the world, help gallerists grow through our worldwide network of artists and assist new and seasoned collectors in acquiring contemporary original art from emerging and mid-career artists globally.
We’re proud of our growing global network of art professionals and the experience I have acquired while I was engaged with the industry prior to founding the business. The invaluable experience has helped me understand artists irrespective of where they are in their creative journeys and how I can help them grow in their careers. We have a team of dedicated professionals from all around the world who are invested in offering support, guidance and assistance and helping realise the vision of Artiste Culture.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
In order to build a clientele worldwide, one of the most effective strategies has been to build connections and relationships through mutual connections or by interacting with professionals at art forums, exhibitions and shows. Through these interactions, I build strong relationships with my clients to provide them with a comfy and friendly environment. I place high importance on being an attentive listener which has helped me learn about clients’ problems, feelings, goals and most importantly their work. I also ensure that my team practices a friendly approach when they meet new clients and build a rapport with them in a similar manner so that the artists feel heard and understood.
Once an understanding has been established, we offer them services with a tailored approach that best suits their ambitions.
As a business, networking is crucial to creating a global clientele, and Artiste Culture has undoubtedly succeeded in building an international clientele of art professionals.
