We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bradford Bowley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bradford below.
Bradford, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Skateboarding is a form of art, everyone does it differently and has their own style. You are able to learn a lot faster by observing others around you that may have more experience. Ask for advice, listen, and make it your own.If skateboarding is something that you are trying to learn, you have to overcome the fear of falling, you have to be confident.
Bradford, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. As a kid I always felt different from everyone else. As years would go by I realized it was because I have a creative mind, I see art in everything. Art comes in so many shapes and forms, it’s around you all the time. I fell in love with skateboarding for that exact reason, somebody could just see a park bench but I see a thousand different possibilities that could be done just by using it as an obstacle. It’s a way to express yourself. Skateboarding has always been in my family and I’ve been on a board for as long as I can remember, skateboarding is an outlet that makes me feel free.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One day I saw someone do a trick that I thought was super impressive and I thought to myself I can do that as well. For weeks I kept trying and kept failing however, I was determined to figure it out I wasn’t going to stop until I could successfully do it. As time went by I was able to do it and that feeling was unforgettable.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of what I do is the community. I meet all kinds of amazing individuals who all come together to do one thing.
