We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bingo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bingo below.
Bingo, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
The first painting I sold was at my first art show which took place in a bar in Brooklyn. It was very crowded and I was having a conversation with someone when the curator Dave Ellis walked up to me and whispered, “You sold a painting”. It took a minute to sink in. Then I thought to myself, do I know the buyer?. I did not. I felt the kind of adrenaline rush I would get from playing a live show with my band.
Bingo, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I spent most of my life as a musician. I played various instruments in several bands in NYC. In 2010 I was in between projects and needed a creative outlet. I started painting and found that it really satisfied my need to create. I started with watercolor and painted places of worship. Churches always fascinated me. I then moved on to acrylic and added metal to my paintings for a three dimensional effect. I started hand making barbed wire and formed it into lampshades. During the pandemic I painted a series of black and white tree scenes inspired by trees in NYC parks. I’ve always been into fashion so it was a natural move when I started hand stitching and painting different types of hats. Recently I’ve been using more color and just finished a series called Love it Kill it, my own type of graffiti
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Creating something that can change a person’s mood or the way they look at things is very satisfying.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I have carpal tunnel and arthritis in my right thumb from over use. I spent a year doing things left handed. So now when my right hand is sore I can paint with my left
