We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Todd Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Todd thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
“The richest people in the world build networks. Everyone else is trained to look for work.”
Robert Kiyosaki
Three things I think help create success:
Consistency
Momentum
And creating a strong network.
Success is not about a single magic formula, but rather a combination of strategic approaches that work together to create meaningful progress and opportunities.
Consistency
Consistency is about showing up and delivering quality every single day. This means:
– Regularly sharing your message across platforms
– Distributing content through various channels
– Providing exceptional customer service
– Maintaining reliability in your professional interactions
Momentum:
Momentum emerges naturally from consistent effort:
– Once started, momentum becomes self-reinforcing
– Similar to athletic performance, consistent action builds unstoppable progress
– Requires continuous engagement and commitment
Networking: Expanding Your Professional Ecosystem
Strategic networking involves:
– Building a wide professional network
– Cultivating deep connections with key individuals
– Creating opportunities for recommendations and referrals
– Positioning yourself as a valuable connection in your industry
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started by building WordPress websites. I still do.
But along the way I realized that the messages of the website aren’t as good as they could be. I started working in content marketing and eventually, Copywriting.
At this point I help B2B companies get their marketing unstuck. I lean heavily on storytelling to do this.
About six years ago I created the Website Copy Framework, a series of worksheets and eBooks to help a company create working website content.
I have had my thoughts contribute to two books. Pretty cool.
I am a big believer in creating community, even in the business space, because it fosters a better customer experience.
Over the years, I have worked jobs that seem to have nothing in common—retail, grocery, vending, tech journalism and ministry. However, they have shaped the skills that have created who I am championing customer experience, communication, and community building.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Pivot happens a lot, especially for me. I feel like its more of an evolution. I stack sills I learn and move forward. However, in my life I have been challenged with several health issues. Sometimes I feel its two steps forward and five steps back. I has been a struggle for me to maintain consistency and build momentum. If you aren’t consistent and can’t show up, people forget about you. Then you have to re-introduce yourself.
I have pivoted from building WordPress websites to doing content marketing and then copywriting. Now, I am a marketer who uses storytelling to help companies get un-stuck with their marketing.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
The best thing you can do is show up consistently and provide some really good value. Value for each audience can be different, but it does need to engage. That is one reason I like to use storytelling in my content or at least teach people about using storytelling.
