We were lucky to catch up with Slade Finn recently and have shared our conversation below.
Slade, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I would definitely have to say my recent album ‘Heart Made of Water’. For many reasons, notably it’s my first official music release on all major platforms, which in itself was quite the milestone. So much was put into that project, many inspiring stories, personal experiences, and fun sounds! There’s so much I could say about each of the 12 songs, but what really set things in motion was an unexplainable event! Let’s just say it all started with a watermelon that (literally) fell out of the sky!

Slade, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Thanks for having me! My name is Slade Finn, I’m a songwriter, musician and artist based in Southern California. All my life I’ve been called to create. From drawing and painting, to animation and video production. One constant from as early as I can remember has always been music. From collecting CD’s of my favorite albums when I was little, to picking up my first guitar when I was 8. Music has always moved my soul, and to create it is a very special kind of blessing. Though it would take me some time to find my voice.
Originally going to college for visual development in the entertainment industry, my path for quite a while consisted of creating concept art. Designing worlds, environments, characters, specifically the look. I still have immense passion for the medium and I’ll always continue to make art, but my focus much more recently has been a toward pursuing music more seriously.
One significant breakthrough for me was realizing the potential in the music that had been living in my heart for many years. Realizing that those songs wanted to be made. All of the sudden it was like “oh wow, yeah these are actually songs people could listen to, not just in my head.” Around that same time I was introduced to a music producer, very shortly thereafter we went straight into my first project. Funny how things work.
‘Heart Made of Water’ released 10 months later in July 2024. 12 songs straight from the heart. Comprised of expansive soundscapes, acoustic melodies, emotional moments, and impossible stories. The process of creating the project just flowed so naturally, from the writing process down to the synergy with the producer. Everything just aligned. Since release it’s been inspiring to see how it’s resonated. I’m already super excited to share what’s next.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
To me, above everything not only in my creative journey, but in my human journey, is all about connection, relationship, more than any fleeting experience we have, but to the eternal. Consciousness, nature, higher power, the divine, the self, however we relate to it. To me that’s what animates everything, our choices, our drives, our passions. It’s in how we relate to the world and to our experience that we see our fruits.
My goal is to follow that calling as best I can, to create experiences that inspire others, and relate to life with love and gratitude.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I love seeing everything come together, something so special about watching a project evolve from an idea to a finished piece. I love collaborating with others, always such a joy to work alongside other super talented people and learn from them. There’s so much fun in the idea stage as well, when that very first seed of inspiration comes it can be very exciting.
I think the most rewarding thing though, is sharing it with the world, to friends, family, to fans. Otherwise I’d still just be playing those same ol’ songs in my room alone. To offer what I have as art that others may enjoy, is a unique blessing that one doesn’t take lightly, it’s all an offering. To share my art is the reward, and if it resonates with people that’s a huge bonus.
