Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mickey Alan Kravitz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mickey Alan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Well, I’ve been a musician since the age of 14 and I grew up being in glam rock bands so as you know, Hair is a big part of it. I have been cursed or blessed however, you wanna look at it with people asking me who I am what band are you in or what do you do my whole life. 2012 all of a sudden people started asking are you a musician or hairdresser and that would happen two or three times a day so I started thinking about that and came up with an idea to start a product line I’ve always been the kind of person that mixes products together to get a better hold or a better this or that so I figured this is a no-brainer. I can do it. I put my mind to it found a chemist, lab and manufacturer here in Van Nuys California started with two products, Hair paste and hairspray and now I have added hair growth, support, shampoos and conditioner, eyebrow and eyelash growth, hair, growth, serum, etc. to where now I have a full product line
Mickey Alan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
When I was a kid and first heard KISS, The Sweet, T. Rex and David Bowie I knew what I wanted to do. My entire life was music. Pretty much right out of high school my band Harlow got an independent record deal, that was at the height of the glam rock scene. We released our first single Rock the Box and moved from Kansas City to Los Angeles. Harlow eventually broke up, but we have reformed a few times for another record and shows, etc. I formed other bands through the years baby strange, the smash, vendetta, etc., and pretty much lived on the Sunset strip. I continue to write and record songs when I have time. 2012 I came up with the idea to start the product line Mickey Alan Kravitz hair products. I was always the kind of person that would mix products together to get a better hold or style, etc, and being in the rock and roll world hair is a big deal so I found a chemist, lab and manufacturer here in Van Nuys, California and we started working on my first two products at that time A hair paste and an extra hold hairspray. 2025 my product line has grown to hair growth support shampoos and conditioner, eyebrow and eyelash growth, serum, hair growth serum and Will continue to develop the best hair products on the market. I feel very lucky that the line is growing everyday and amazon has helped get the name and product line out to the entire world
Any fun sales or marketing stories?
When I first started, I had two products. No one knew who I was. I had zero money for marketing or advertising and the Internet was different than it is today. I’ve always been used to being in a band and making flyers eye contact hand flyer street marketing. I decided to make about 50 different email accounts under different names and back then message boards were a big deal on the Internet. So I would go on message boards under different names and post a comment about this new product line that I found and then I would go back a few days under a different name and post a response all positive and I did that for eight hours a day for the first 6 months on every message board I could find related to hair or beauty. I gradually started getting orders and more and more.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
A good products that all it takes! It takes me about 6 months to develop a new product after meeting with my lab i get samples and i make changes until its the best it can be. If my name is on it I want it to be the best. If you make a good product word of mouth will help you market it
