We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Julia Young. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Julia below.
Hi Julia, thanks for joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I hope my legacy will be one of empowerment, love, and transformation. Through my work as The Mindful Nanny, I want to be remembered as someone who nurtured not only the minds and hearts of children but also supported families in creating meaningful, balanced lives. I want people to think of me as someone who valued the beauty of nature, the power of play, and the importance of fostering connections that help children thrive emotionally and physically.
As @fitspiritualgangsta, I hope to inspire others to embrace their fitness and wellness journeys unapologetically. I want to be remembered as someone who showed that strength comes in many forms—not just physical but also mental and spiritual. My goal is to leave behind a ripple effect, encouraging others to step outside of their comfort zones, challenge themselves, and live with passion, discipline, and gratitude.
Ultimately, I hope people will say I was someone who inspired confidence, wellness, and a deeper connection to life in all its forms. Whether through the children I cared for or the individuals I inspired through fitness, I want my legacy to be one of positive change and intentional living.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Julia, the founder of The Mindful Nanny, a childcare and animal care service that emphasizes outdoor adventures, nature-based play, and fostering meaningful connections between children, animals, and their environment. With over 17 years of experience as a caregiver, I aim to provide children with enriching experiences that promote creativity, independence, and a love for nature, while also ensuring pets receive attentive and compassionate care. Whether it’s organizing engaging outdoor activities for children or offering reliable and nurturing services for animals, I prioritize the well-being and happiness of every family member—human or furry.
In addition to childcare, I’m the creator behind @fitspiritualgangsta, where I inspire my community to lead active, balanced, and intentional lives. Through this platform, I share my fitness journey, wellness tips, and collaborations with brands that align with my values. My focus is on showing others that fitness isn’t just about the physical—it’s about mental and spiritual well-being too.
What I’m most proud of is my ability to create authentic connections—whether it’s with the families I work with, the children I care for, or my online community. I want people to know that everything I do is rooted in my passion for empowering others to live fully, whether through mindful caregiving, compassionate animal care, or embracing a strong, healthy lifestyle.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe what has helped me build a strong reputation is the genuine friendships I’ve fostered with the families I’ve worked for over time. These relationships have been rooted in trust, open communication, and a shared goal of providing the best care and experiences for their children and their animals.
Additionally, the connections I’ve built both online and offline through The Mindful Nanny and @fitspiritualgangsta have played a significant role in establishing my credibility. By sharing authentic content and engaging with my community, I’ve been able to create meaningful relationships that extend beyond just a business connection. These personal touches and consistent values have helped me stand out in both markets.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I’ve had to unlearn a few times as I’ve grown is that the people you think care about you will always show their true colors—often without saying a word. This realization has applied to both my work as The Mindful Nanny and my journey with @fitspiritualgangsta. Over time, I’ve learned to establish boundaries, which has been essential for building healthier relationships in both personal and professional spaces.
Through this process, I’ve discovered a lot about myself and the markets I work in. I’ve gained clarity on who I am, what I value, and how to align my work with those values. Learning to protect my energy and prioritize genuine, supportive connections has been transformative in my growth and success.
