Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Adrien Myles. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Adrien, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I’ve ever worked on is my latest studio album, “DIE ALONE.” This album is especially meaningful because it’s the first time I’ve been truly honest in telling my story while also being extremely patient with the creative process. When I first started writing music, I was solely focused on making something catchy: something that would be acceptable and mainstream. And while I have written some incredible records with that approach, I wanted my next project to be something that was personal and timeless. I wanted to write songs that I can’t wait to listen to. When I put my headphones on and I’m deciding what it is that I want to hear, so many songs are relatable but it just stops there at relatable. I’m blessed with the ability to make songs that elicit my specific experiences. I wanted to stop making music for THEM and start making music for ME. And along the way, I was so eager, many times, to prematurely release the music through my distributor because after hearing each track perfectly mixed and mastered, I was itching to share and say, “Hey world, look what I can do!” And each time I finished a track, I was ignited; immediately looking to make another. There was a point in time when the album was only a single, and then it developed into an EP, and then it was 16 songs, and then I took these songs like puzzle pieces and told my story: 12 songs that were so carefully crafted to define Adrien Myles. I felt fulfillment. And I had done it all on my own. Every lyric, every melody. Funding every dollar for the studio, the music videos, the audio engineers, the beat producers… it is HARD work with such a proud price tag.
Adrien, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
The music industry isn’t an industry that you just “get into.” The music industry is full of passion-project. talented individuals who CANNOT ignore the calling. But to be less mythical in my response; I started singing at a young age. I come from a musically inclined family and I always used to be super shy. One day, I decided to audition for a solo in my school choir. After I sang, the room was silent. People were stunned to hear the 75lb scrawny kid belt out these high notes. After a few seconds of awkward silence, I had my movie moment and everyone cheered in support that I finally broke my shell. It was in that very moment that I knew I wanted to sing forever because of the toxic gratification; being cheered on for some innate ability that I possess inside. After my movie moment, I got to work. I began studying music of all kinds – a real choir nerd. I joined all the groups and went to every audition. After college, I found myself traveling all over the world singing on cruise ships. This led to my own personal desires to write music in hopes that one day my music would be what people want to hear when they’re on vacation. So I moved to LA to begin my dreams as “pop star” and it’s been quite an exciting journey. And while I thrive in my industry as a songwriter; I am still a novice businessman in navigating the music industry. I sit on a mountain of talent and opportunities arise each day that allow me to learn and grow. I am now streaming my songs worldwide in stores and streaming services such as Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube VEVO, and MORE. My reputation stands for itself and is evident in my music.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
A lot of non-creatives constantly assume that creatives don’t work hard because they all don’t get corporate paychecks. Chasing a dream is so special. It does and will pan out if you work hard and believe. Sometimes, you look around and desperately ask, “When??” You question if you should succumb to the norm or why this path was so important. Personally, I feel like there are MANY things that I would be good at but at the end of the day; I must pursue my dream. Call me foolish but I’m sticking to my guns. I think I possess a great deal of self-awareness and the investment I have in my talent does not exceed my ability. I still have many things to accomplish in my field and giving up is simply not an option.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Be YOU! Sure, there are businesses strategies to build a following and there are valid marketing tools but the most honest version of success online is to be your most authentic self. The world is so enormous and there is a niche for everything. If you are the type of person who is drawn to a creative light; chances are there is an audience for you if you commit. That commitment isn’t just about posting often but it includes studying your craft and finding new innovative ways of thinking. You must accept ideas and be a melting pot while also staying true to yourself. It can be a fine line but everyone knows in their heart when they’re being honest so if you honestly feel that you need to be seen and you do it honestly; the universe will do the rest of the work.
