Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kay Allen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kay, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Well, I have been in the Fashion Industry since I was a teenager, but in a different capacity. Once I stepped foot into this side though, I knew this was something that I should pursue. I was modeling independently, doing my own makeup, styling, creating the sets and when people took notice of it, I realized another passion was ignited. I love creating. I love making things beautiful, in an unconventional, artistic way. From that is when I knew I had to do this for a living, and not just on the side.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
There are a lot of things that set me apart from others. I think …OUTSIDE of the box. I am always looking for things to make people think. Putting things together that wouldn’t usually go together and making it beautiful. Showcasing designers work in a way that would make them stand out. Having the models pose or photographed In a way that will make them get noticed. I am most proud of having a creative eye. I want people to know that when they work with me, they will get more than they bargain for (in the best way).
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect for me is getting seen. Not just seen in the literal sense, but seen in the sense that people get what I am trying to say with every shoot. I direct and style with a full purpose. I want to get every garment seen, the model seen, the set seen, with all of the intricacies. I want the viewer to get exactly what is being said and be moved by it.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is ultimately to be infamous. Not famous, infamous. I want to be known solely for my work and what I bring to the industry. I believe that I work a little differently, because of my extensive knowledge and I have a clear vision of what I want to add to the industry. We need inclusion, diversity, something out of the ordinary, things we’ve never seen but want to see again. So those are the things that drive me.
