We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christy Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Christy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The mission of Fearless Church—to love more and fear less—is rooted in a deep commitment to living out faith with boldness, compassion, and unwavering trust in God. Their story is one of transformation, courage, and radical love, inspiring individuals to step beyond their comfort zones and embrace a life filled with faith rather than fear.
The Heart of the Mission
Fearless Church believes that fear holds people back—from loving fully, from taking action, and from stepping into their God-given purpose. Their mission is simple but profound: to replace fear with love. They encourage their community to trust in God’s promises, serve others selflessly, and engage the world with the kind of love that Jesus exemplified.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi, I’m Christy Johnson, and I have the incredible honor of leading Fearless Church alongside my husband, Jeremy.
Thirteen years ago, we planted this church in the heart of Los Angeles with a simple but powerful mission: to love this city and serve those in need—loving them until they ask why. From the beginning, we’ve believed that true transformation happens when we step out in faith, let go of fear, and love people the way Jesus did—boldly, relentlessly, and without conditions.
My heart beats for creating a space where everyone—no matter their past, struggles, or doubts—can encounter the overwhelming love of God. I’m passionate about empowering women in ministry, standing with the broken, and reminding people of their worth and calling.
Fearless Church isn’t just a building—it’s a movement. It’s a family of believers choosing to love more and fear less, to step out in courage, and to bring hope to the hurting. Whether through worship, outreach, or simply doing life together, I believe we are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus in this city and beyond.
If you’re searching for hope, community, or purpose, know this—you are loved, you belong, and you don’t have to walk this journey alone
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I remember the moment so clearly—the feeling of excitement mixed with an overwhelming sense of fear. God had called us to move to Los Angeles to plant a church, but nothing about it felt “safe.” I was pregnant with our first child, leaving behind everything familiar, and stepping into the unknown with nothing but a calling and a dream.
Fear whispered every lie imaginable: What if we fail? What if no one shows up? What if we don’t have enough money? And the biggest fear of all—What if we didn’t actually hear God right?
But God kept reminding me: Fear is not my future—He is.
So, we packed up everything, said our goodbyes, and moved to a city where we knew almost no one. We had no big budget, no guarantees—just a passion to love the city until people asked why. There were nights I cried, overwhelmed by the weight of it all. But each time fear tried to creep in, God met me with His presence.
I learned quickly that faith doesn’t mean the fear disappears—it means you step forward anyway. We started small, holding services in a nightclub, turning a space meant for darkness into a place of light and worship. People started coming—people who felt lost, broken, searching for hope. And I realized something: this was exactly why God sent us here.
Now, looking back, I see how God was shaping us in those early days—teaching us to trust Him completely. If we had let fear win, Fearless Church wouldn’t exist today. But because we stepped out, lives have been changed, and God’s love is transforming this city.
To anyone standing on the edge of something scary, wondering if you have what it takes—I’ve been there. And I can tell you this: God is faithful. Fear is a liar. And the greatest miracles happen when you step out in faith.
Love more. Fear less.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I never set out to build a platform. I never thought, How can I grow my audience? That was never the goal. From the very beginning, my heart was simply to help people—to be real, to share my journey, and to let others know they weren’t alone.
When we first started Fearless Church, I had no idea how powerful social media could be in reaching people. But I did know one thing: people crave authenticity. They don’t need another perfectly curated life or scripted message. They need real, raw, and unfiltered stories of faith, struggle, and breakthrough.
So that’s what I started doing.
I shared about our move to L.A. while pregnant, the fears I had, and how God showed up in ways I never expected. I talked about moments of doubt, battles with fear, and the times I felt unqualified for what God was calling me to do. I shared about the miracles, the heartbreaks, and the messy in-between—because that’s real life. And I found that when I opened up, people responded. They weren’t drawn to perfection; they were drawn to honesty and hope.
And that’s how our online community grew—not because I chased numbers, but because I chased connection. I didn’t want followers; I wanted to see lives changed. I wanted people to know that they were seen, loved, and not alone in their struggles.
I’ve learned that social media is just another tool for ministry. It’s not about viral posts or perfect aesthetics. It’s about being a light, using whatever platform we have to point people to Jesus. And when that’s the focus, the right people will find you.
So, to anyone wondering how to build an audience—don’t. Instead, build relationships. Be real. Share your story. Help people. Because in the end, it’s not about likes or followers—it’s about souls.
