Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kay Bell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kay , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
being successful means liking what is growing inside you. All pieces of you and using those pieces to help you be the best possible version of yourself.

Kay , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am the current Bronx Poet Laureate and I founded Poetic Pathways, a poetry collective that meets at various places throughout the year in the Bronx to share community, poetry and creative expression along our healing journeys. I facilitate workshops at the meetups and invite other professionals in to teach the collective about mental health, art, and the history of the Bronx. I am most proud that there is so much creative and resilience here in the Bronx and you can see that through the work produced in the workshops. This makes me proud because the Bronx has always been known to be a place of scarcity and we are showing up to show that we are all full of life. We have so much to offer.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew more about publishing and fellowships. Both provide opportunities to be more visible but also connect with others in the same field and building connections as a creative is essential to growing your community.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
To show creative expression is essential to the healing journey. While talk therapy and medication are vital tools for many, research reveals that they alone may not be enough to facilitate profound healing. This is where creative expression comes in – a powerful catalyst for transformation that can reach deep into our bodies and minds.
Through creative expression, we can tap into our inner world, making sense of our trauma and emotions in a way that traditional therapies may not, such as processing and releasing stored emotions, reclaiming our narratives and reframing our experiences, and even cultivating self-awareness, self-compassion, and empowerment.
