We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jasmine Steadman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jasmine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission statement is important to me because baking is more than just creating delicious treats or having the best ingredients. For me, it’s about love, family, and the simple joy of sharing something made from the heart. It’s honoring the traditions and memories that have shaped me into who I am today. Some of my fondest memories are tied to the kitchen. Like learning cherished recipes that my grandmother was stingy with (ask my family…iykyk..ha). The memories of getting my first easy bake oven and making my brother try everything (I’m sure he’s much more happier with my baking skills than when I was 5). I still smile thinking about making “sticky stuff” (my version of rice krispy treats) with my little cousin. He would sit on the counter,
his hands covered in sticky stuff…making a mess. Presently, as I bake and decorate with my own daughter; I see the magic of these traditions continuing, creating moments she’ll cherish just as I do.
My baking business affords me the luxury to share that same feeling with others. With every order, I want my customers to experience the joy of a homemade treat that feels like a piece of home, just like the ones my family and myself enjoy. Every cake, pastry, and dessert I make is a reflection of my passion for bringing people together through the simple yet powerful magic of baking.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi, I’m Jasmine, the heart and hands behind Brooklyns Blissful Bites. Baking has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest and fondest memories are in the kitchen—learning treasured recipes from my grandmother and experimenting with my Easy-Bake Oven. Those moments sparked a lifelong passion for baking, one that I now get to share with my own daughter as we create and decorate together.
What started as a love for baking at home has grown into a business built on tradition, creativity, and the joy of bringing people together through delicious, handcrafted treats. I specialize in various sweet/savory treats, but some specific items are banana pudding (it’s been known to start arguments amongst family gatherings and I hold true that it’s the reason my husband married me), BBBs GEECHEE buffalo chicken or seafood dip, chewies (we have an ever growing list of flavors), custom cakes, cupcakes/cupcake cakes, dessert tables, treats for dietary restrictions and custom infusions. I take pride in using high-quality ingredients, recipes infused with love and family history.
What sets me apart is the personal touch I bring to each creation. Every cake, pastry, and confection isn’t just about taste—it’s about making memories. Whether it’s a birthday, wedding, or just a sweet craving, I aim to make every bite feel like home.
I’m most proud of how my passion has evolved into something that brings happiness to others. When I started out at 5 and through college…it was just for fun. However, when I started getting burnt out from working retail, customer service and technical support; it was easy to find my way back to baking. The biggest push was when my grandmother passed in 2020. I felt i owed pursuing my passion to her. As a result, I enrolled in baking and pastry school to further my knowledge and skills. Seeing a customer’s face light up when they see (and taste) my work is what drives me every day. My goal is to not only provide delicious baked goods but also to create experiences that celebrate love, tradition, and the simple joy of a homemade treat.
Beyond the kitchen, I’m a mom, serial entrepreneur, collaborator, mentor, and lifelong learner. I thrive in dynamic environments where teamwork and creativity flourish. I’m always eager to share my knowledge and learn from others. As a pastry chef, I understand the power of food to connect, celebrate, and inspire, and I’m dedicated to bringing joy to every table I serve.
To those who have supported me on this journey—thank you. For those who are just discovering Brooklyns Blissful Bites, I can’t wait to share my passion with you, one sweet creation at a time!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a pastry chef is the joy and connection that my creations bring to people. I consider baking as my superpower. Baking isn’t just about mixing ingredients—it’s about crafting something that becomes part of someone’s special moments. Whether it’s a birthday cake that lights up a child’s face, a wedding cake that symbolizes love and commitment, or a simple treat that brightens someone’s day, knowing that my work plays a role in those memories is truly fulfilling.
I also love the creative freedom that comes with pastry artistry. Every cake, cookie, and dessert is a blank canvas where I get to express my creativity, turning ideas into edible works of art. It’s amazing to see a vision come to life and even more incredible to see the happiness it brings to my clients.
But what means the most to me is how baking keeps me connected to my roots. From my grandmother’s recipes to baking with my daughter, every creation carries a piece of my family’s traditions. Sharing that love and nostalgia with others through my business is one of the most rewarding feelings in the world.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was the idea that everything had to be perfect in order to be successful. For a long time, I put immense pressure on myself to make every cake flawless, every detail exact, and every step in my business go according to plan. I believed that if something wasn’t ‘just right,’ it wasn’t good enough.
The turning point came when I was working on a custom cake that didn’t turn out the way I initially envisioned. I was so frustrated, convinced I had failed. But when I delivered it to the client, they were overjoyed—they saw the beauty, the effort, and the love behind it, not the tiny imperfections I had been obsessing over. That moment made me realize that perfection isn’t what makes something special—passion, creativity, and heart do.
Since then, I’ve embraced the idea that mistakes are part of the journey. They help me grow, push my creativity, and remind me that the most important thing is making something meaningful, not just ‘perfect.’ Now, I focus on enjoying the process, learning from challenges, and knowing that my work is just as much about the love and joy it brings as it is about the final product.
