We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Travis Flack a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Travis , thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
First started as sometime always did for a past time . Then one day I was rapping at the end of a djs set on the radio in my dads car while he was inside afterwards he was like that’s nice who song was that I said that was my words . And he pasted to cancer like 8 years ago. But he told me to do to continue to pursue and a career in it. And that’s just what I’ve did To actually create a art with musically. To express my feeelings on a beat in a way that people can relate to
Travis , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
What sets me apart is I have my own style I don’t sound like anyone so that in itself in and advantage nothing let no one convince u to steer into another direction. My brand 1WayTrapp is myself in a whole every artist is a brand and nothing like branding yourself with any career this is the way I support myself and my loved ones.Music for me is like therapy to my listeners because all music is , is basically feelings on a beat and if I can make u relate I feel like a job well done because people tend to gravitate towards something they can relate to
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Once upon a time when I didn’t have license in order to perform at this venue I had to provide id which at the moment for some odd reason I lost my id. So I had maybe 30 mins to get to the dmv which was closing in 30 mins I’m a car it was 10 but walking it was 30 . So with me being a athlete most of my life I began to sprint . Made it there in 20 mins. Got my id and made it to the venue via Uber and was crowned winner of the night
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to learn like basically in life u never want to kicc anyone when there down or even if u surpass them because then same people I see coming up you’ll win eventually see them as u go down . So ultimately treat people as you want to be treated because you never know whose connected to who .. so I had to learn it the hard way once lost in a showcase and I had caught a attitude with the guy and he had me blackballed at all the events he host or was apart of. So I had to apologize and even then the guy wasn’t to cool with me . But furthermore I keep to my agenda finding other gigs at places then the night I met jayz nephew Rel carter, behold guess who was the mic man for the night the same guy that blacc balled me . So always treat people with respect and if u put good energy into the world and your craft it’ll come bacc tenfold
