We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brian Peay a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brian , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
A defining moment for me was being evaluated and diagnosed with adult ADHD, anxiety and depression. For years I noticed the symptoms of ADHD/ADD without knowing they were symptoms of a form of mental health issues.
I ignored the symptoms and help for a while for fear of feeling less than, feeling like damaged goods. In ignoring this I had several mood swings, emotional moments, lacked concentration and focus so much that I was terminated from a job with a great company.
Through much therapy it helped me to realize I’m not the only strong, married father and grandfather of color thats going through this.
After diagnosis it left me feeling very depressed because I was always everyone’s go to and now here I am needing a go to.
Fast forward I’ve learned to face my illness head on and help others instead of holding a pity party for myself. As a best selling author. Inspirational speaker and mental health advocate Ive learn to overcome obstacles and embracing change tk achieve personal growth while helping others do the same.
Brian , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I recently wrote the book Notes to self-Utilizing the subconscious mind (available on amazon and other platforms) it educates the reader on the subconscious mind and how to use it to benefit and manifest personally and professionally. We all can reach a life of progress, growth and increase through affirmations and visualization. I help the reader realize this by sharing some of my personal journey.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn that no one is coming to save me and the success journey is totally up me and the choices and decisions I make only.
Playing the blame game is easy but never brings results.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Ive often hear the two most important days of your life are the day you were born and the day you discovered why you were born which is your purpose. If I could go back in time I would definitely choose the same profession which is part of my purpose.
