We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Fred Moore. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Fred below.
Fred, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
Many people assume success happens overnight, but my journey in the hair industry has been years in the making. When I started Moorestyle Studio, I faced challenges like building a client base, educating people on non-surgical hair restoration, and pricing my services correctly. The key to scaling up was finding my niche, refining my skills, and positioning myself as an expert in hair replacement and precision barbering.
Social media played a huge role in my growth, I learned to showcase my work effectively, which attracted more clients and increased demand. As my business grew, I set boundaries, implemented policies, and raised my prices to reflect my value. I also expanded beyond the chair by teaching classes and exploring brand partnerships to diversify my income.
Like any entrepreneur, I faced setbacks, opportunities lost, unexpected challenges, and moments of doubt. But I stayed adaptable, continued learning, and kept pushing forward. Today, I have a thriving business, and I’m working toward breaking into film and theater while continuing to educate others.
Success isn’t instant; it’s about persistence, strategy, and growth. My advice? Find your niche, invest in your craft, set boundaries, and never stop evolving.
Fred, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Fred Moore. I’m the owner of Moorestyle Studio, located inside Sola Salon Suites, where I’m also a brand ambassador and one of the Faces of Sola 2025. I specialize in hair replacement, precision barbering, and natural hairstyling. I got into the hair industry because I’ve always been passionate about helping people look and feel like the best version of themselves. Over time, that passion evolved into a more focused mission restoring confidence for clients experiencing hair loss or thinning.
At Moorestyle Studio, I offer custom hairpieces, non-surgical hair restoration, natural styles like braids and twists, and now scalp micropigmentation (SMP), which is a new service I’ve added for clients dealing with more advanced hair loss. I take pride in creating solutions that are not only realistic but life changing.
What makes my work stand out is my attention to detail, versatility, and the level of privacy and care I provide. My studio is a safe space where clients can be open about what they’re going through without judgment. I’ve had many clients come to me feeling defeated after trying everything else, and seeing their transformation both physical and emotional is what drives me.
I’m most proud of the trust I’ve built with my clients and the reputation I’ve earned as someone who truly understands hair restoration and grooming. I want potential clients and followers to know that Moorestyle Studio is about more than just hair it’s about transformation, confidence, and creating a look that feels like you again.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience on social media through consistency, showcasing transformations, and using strategic captions and hashtags to reach the right people. At first, I simply posted my work, but I learned that engagement comes from storytelling showing before-and-after results and educating clients about my services. My recent videos have reached thousands of views by using the right descriptions and visuals. For anyone starting out, my advice is to post consistently, use high-quality content, educate your audience, engage with followers, and experiment with hashtags and keywords. Growth takes time, but staying authentic and providing value will help build a loyal audience.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
I originally went to college for criminal justice, and while I enjoyed it, I knew it wasn’t for me. I’ve always been a creative person, and I needed something that truly satisfied that side of me. Eventually, I made the bold decision to drop out of school, quit my job, and start cutting hair. What started as a skill quickly turned into a passion, and I realized I could turn it into a full-time career.
In the beginning, I worked a regular 9-5 Job while going to cosmetology school and working in a barbershop until I graduated, but I knew I wanted more control over my craft and my business. I took a leap and opened my own private salon suite, Moorestyle Studio, where I focused on hair replacement, non-surgical hair restoration, and precision barbering. As demand for my services grew, I refined my skills, built a strong brand, and used social media to showcase my work. A major milestone was when I started offering custom hair systems and, most recently, Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP), expanding my ability to help clients with hair loss.
Scaling up wasn’t overnight it took persistence, learning from setbacks, and constantly improving my craft. Today, I have a thriving business, and I’m continuing to grow by educating others, exploring new opportunities, and positioning myself as a specialist in my field. Dropping out of college and leaving my job was a risk, but it was the best decision I ever made.
