We were lucky to catch up with Krupa Thomas recently and have shared our conversation below.
Krupa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success doesn’t happen overnight. I’m sure everyone has heard this before, but it’s true. It takes courage to start your own business from the ground up. It takes a lot of persistent hard work, effort, and time. There is also a lot of trial and error along the way, but the most important thing is to never give up on something you are passionate about. Stay ambitious, do not let little set backs bring you down, and stay faithful.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was in the henna industry from a young age, by helping my mom with her business. Then, as an adult I branched out on my own to develop my own bridal henna art business. My business initially grew via word of mouth, then as I started using social media outlets to display my portfolio, my business really took off.
Henna art is a unique niche. There are countless hours of effort put in behind the scenes – finding safe, quality ingredients, learning to make the perfect paste, learning how to roll cones with the right materials, figuring out the proper after-care to advise to your clients, etc. I have spent years perfecting my craft, and I’m still learning new things every day. The key is to be open to change, learning, and innovation.
The other part to this type of business is offering exceptional service. I work diligently to understand my client’s needs and what is most important to them during their bridal henna session. I ask them for inspiration pics for their design, and also any personal touches they want to add that relate to their relationship/love story.
I hope and pray that God will allow me to continue in this industry for many more years to come, because it is truly a labor of love. I thank Him ultimately for my success.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Bridal henna is something that will remain with clients for 2 weeks surrounding their wedding/honeymoon time, and create a long-lasting memory. I love that I get to be an integral part of one of the most important day’s of someone’s life. It’s a blessing and I appreciate all of my clients. Every bride has contributed to my success by trusting me to create beautiful art for them and being a living canvas.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When Covid hit, everything came to a stop. All weddings were canceled and I lost a lot of business, as did many others. But naturally as things opened up, I was thankful that brides still wanted to book me and the next few years my business really thrived.
