We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mrs. Sathya Callender-Wilson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mrs. Sathya below.
Mrs. Sathya , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
At Scars of Survival Inc., our mission is deeply rooted in personal experience and a commitment to transforming lives shaped by the hardships of domestic violence. Having overcome my own journey through these adversities, I recognized a profound need for community, understanding, and resources for survivors. This realization sparked the creation of our organization, dedicated to helping others not just survive, but heal and thrive.
The mission is more than just words; it reflects the struggles and triumphs of countless individuals who, like me, have faced the traumatic effects of domestic violence. I have launched Scars of Survival Magazine to create a safe haven for survivors—an empowering platform where they can share their stories of resilience and inspiration. It is my hope that by providing this space, we will foster a sense of belonging, encouragement, and solidarity, reminding survivors that they are not alone in their journey.
Throughout my experience, I wished for a resource like this—an outlet where voices could be heard, stories could be shared, and healing could begin. Our mission is to fill that gap, offering support, advocacy, and a celebration of survival. By sharing our scars, we illuminate the path to recovery and empower others to embrace their journeys, ultimately redefining what it means to thrive after adversity. Together, we are building a community that champions strength, resilience, and the unwavering spirit of survivors.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my journey with you. My name is Mrs. Sathya Callender-Wilson and I am the founder of Scars of Survival Inc. My path into this field emerged from a deeply personal experience with domestic violence, which ignited a passion within me to not only survive but to empower others on their journeys of healing. From the very beginning, my focus has been on creating meaningful change, and I am proud to stand as the first woman to launch a publication specifically catered to the global domestic violence community—Scars of Survival Magazine.
At Scars of Survival, we provide a range of services designed to support survivors and their families. Through our magazine, we share stories of triumph and inspiration, creating a platform for individuals to express their narratives and connect with one another. Additionally, our organization offers vital resources and support to help clients navigate their healing journeys. We also run PosiPalZ, an initiative aimed at cultivating positivity and resilience among all children..
What truly sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to authenticity and advocacy. I don’t just talk the talk; I walk the walk. My genuine desire is to see individuals rise and fulfill their God-given purposes. It’s not about me—it’s about the individuals and families I strive to help overcome the challenges of domestic violence. The lives we touch are a testament to our mission, and I am dedicated to making a meaningful difference.
I am particularly proud of my partnership with the National Domestic Violence Hotline since 2018, which has allowed us to extend our reach and support to those who need it most. My continuous efforts, both locally and globally, reflect my commitment to impacting lives and fostering healing in our communities.
I hope potential clients, followers, and supporters will know that Scars of Survival is a safe space rooted in compassion and empowerment. Together, we are working to change the narrative around domestic violence, ensuring that every survivor knows they are valued and capable of thriving. Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One significant moment in my journey of resilience occurred during my transition into a new relationship after my escape from domestic violence. I was fortunate to meet a compassionate man who helped my children and me find safety and stability. Eventually, we married, and while I was grateful for the love and support he offered, I realized that I was still on my own path toward healing.
At that time, I was navigating the complexities of trying to love and receive love while carrying the wounds of my past. Unfortunately, I soon discovered that I wasn’t fully healed, and my unaddressed trauma began to manifest, affecting the relationship in ways I had not anticipated. There were moments when I became toxic, struggling to balance my desire for connection with the emotional baggage I still carried.
This painful realization was eye-opening. I came to understand that healing is a multifaceted journey, and it often requires more work than one might expect. It wasn’t just about love finding me ; it was about taking the time to nurture my own emotional well-being and confront the scars left by my experiences.
Although the relationship ultimately did not work out, this chapter taught me invaluable lessons about self-awareness, the importance of healing, and the need to create a foundation of self-love before entering into new partnerships. It reinforced my commitment to not only my own growth but also to helping others navigate similar experiences.
In sharing this story, I hope to emphasize that resilience doesn’t mean being unbreakable; rather, it involves recognizing our struggles, learning from them, and understanding that healing is a continuous process. This realization fueled my passion to create Scars of Survival Inc. and the magazine, giving a voice to those who, like me, are working to build a life beyond trauma. Through these efforts, I aim to foster a culture of healing and support, reminding others that they can rise above their circumstances and thrive. True love has now found me with my amazing husband Mr. Tony Wilson of 5 years and forever to go.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Building my reputation within the market has largely been a product of several key strategies, each contributing to the visibility and credibility of Scars of Survival Inc.
First and foremost, word of mouth has played an invaluable role. As survivors and advocates share their experiences with our organization, their testimonials serve as powerful endorsements. This organic form of promotion has allowed my message to resonate within communities, fostering trust and engagement.
Additionally, attending events as a vendor has been instrumental in connecting with individuals seeking support and resources. By being present in spaces where survivors gather, I can share our mission firsthand and facilitate conversations around healing and empowerment. These interactions create meaningful connections, allowing me to establish a strong presence in the community.
Moreover, I’ve leveraged vehicle promotions and branding to increase visibility in my local area and beyond. This has helped to ensure that wherever I go, I am spreading awareness about my work and the services we offer.
Finally, speaking engagements have allowed me to share my story and mission with a broader audience. By presenting at conferences, workshops, and community events, I not only raise awareness about domestic violence but also advocate for change and healing. Each opportunity to speak is a chance to inspire others, fostering a sense of solidarity among survivors and supporters alike.
Together, these efforts have not only helped build my reputation within the market but have also created a supportive community that is eager to uplift and empower one another. As I continue to engage with individuals and organizations, I remain committed to spreading hope and fostering resilience among survivors everywhere.
