Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gregory Rivers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Gregory, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry? Any stories or anecdotes that illustrate why this matters?
Corporate America often misses the mark by overlooking the technology disparities that affect small, particularly minority-owned, businesses. I started Norvet MSP on the premise that these businesses are severely underserved when it comes to accessing reliable, high-speed technology. While pursuing my MBA, I observed firsthand that minority small businesses were falling far behind their counterparts. The difference was glaring: slower internet and outdated systems in these communities were not just a technical issue—they were a barrier to competitive growth, innovation, and economic empowerment.
One anecdote that stands out is a visit to a local minority-owned business where I witnessed how a sluggish internet connection disrupted everything from customer service to online transactions. This wasn’t just an inconvenience; it was a critical disadvantage that impacted their ability to compete effectively in an increasingly digital marketplace. Corporate America’s focus on high-end technology for large enterprises, while neglecting the infrastructure needs of smaller players, creates a cycle where underserved communities continue to lag behind. This matters because in today’s digital age, access to cutting-edge technology is not a luxury—it’s a necessity for economic inclusion and growth.
Gregory, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
At Norvet MSP, our journey is rooted in a passion for empowering underserved communities with cutting-edge technology. I’m Gregory Rivers, CEO & Founder, and I started this company after noticing a stark disparity: minority small businesses were falling behind because they lacked reliable, high-speed technology. While pursuing my MBA, I witnessed firsthand how slower internet and outdated systems hindered these businesses’ ability to compete in an increasingly digital world. This insight inspired me to build Norvet MSP to address these critical gaps.
We specialize in managed IT services, cybersecurity, and high-speed fiber connectivity, providing everything from secure network solutions and fiber installations to comprehensive IT support and technology consulting. Our goal is to ensure that every client—whether a small business or a community institution—has access to the technology they need to thrive. We not only solve technical issues but also empower our clients to achieve operational excellence and sustainable growth.
What sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to bridging the digital divide. We take pride in our role as a trailblazer in fiber installations and in our focus on serving minority and underserved communities. Our approach combines industry-leading technology with a personal touch, ensuring each solution is tailored to the unique needs of our clients.
I’m most proud of the tangible impact our work has on community development—enabling businesses to connect, innovate, and grow. I want potential clients, followers, and partners to know that at Norvet MSP, we’re not just about technology; we’re about creating opportunities, driving economic empowerment, and transforming communities with reliable, high-speed connectivity.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
During the first year of launching Norvet MSP, I encountered a pivotal moment that reshaped our business model. Initially, we focused solely on managed IT services, but I soon realized that our service quality was being compromised by the limitations of major providers. Their inconsistent performance was directly impacting our ability to deliver the high-speed, reliable connectivity our customers needed.
Recognizing this challenge, I made the bold decision to pivot—expanding our role to become a carrier/ISP in addition to being an MSP. This shift allowed us to take control of our own network infrastructure, ensuring that we could offer superior service quality and a more reliable connection. It was a risky move, but it fundamentally transformed our operations, enabling us to provide consistent, cutting-edge fiber connectivity and bridge the digital divide for underserved communities.
This experience taught me that sometimes the best way to overcome industry limitations is to create your own solutions. It has since become a cornerstone of our mission at Norvet MSP, and I’m proud that our pivot not only strengthened our business but also improved the lives of our customers by empowering them with better technology.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Building our reputation in the market has been a combination of several key factors:
Commitment to Quality and Reliability: Early on, I recognized that our customers deserved a level of service that major providers weren’t always delivering. By pivoting to become both a carrier/ISP and an MSP, we took control of our network infrastructure, ensuring that every client experiences consistent, high-speed, and reliable connectivity.
Focus on Underserved Communities: I saw firsthand how minority-owned small businesses were being left behind due to slower, outdated technology. By focusing on these underserved markets and delivering tailored solutions, we built trust and loyalty among clients who truly needed better technology.
Transparent Communication and Customer Care: We’ve always prioritized clear, honest communication and a genuine commitment to solving our customers’ problems. This approach not only helps us build long-term relationships but also reinforces our reputation as a reliable and responsive partner.
These elements have been fundamental to our success and have established Norvet MSP as a trusted name in the industry.
In the end, I think our reputation comes down to caring about our clients’ success as much as our own. People pick up on that. When they search for Norvet MSP or Gregory Rivers, I want them to find a story of reliability, integrity, and innovation. And I’m happy to say that’s exactly what has taken root. We’ve grown mostly through referrals and positive reviews, which to me is the best indicator that we’re doing right by those we serve.
