We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bashiri Brooks. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bashiri below.
Bashiri , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission has always been about freedom—freedom of the mind and the freedom to express oneself through different vessels. For me, that vessel was words. I started writing poetry at a young age, and in eighth grade, I wrote one of my first poems, Caged Bird, inspired by my brother’s incarceration. His case was surrounded by injustice, and that poem became my way of expressing resilience and mental freedom in the face of adversity.
As I grew, that message became the foundation of everything I did. When I launched my production company in 2022, I built it as more than just a business—I saw it as a platform to bridge the gap between community and art. With venues closing and small businesses struggling, I wanted to create spaces where both could thrive. My goal has always been to connect people—bringing them to local businesses, giving artists a stage, and using my own music and poetry to inspire. My work is about more than entertainment; it’s about expression, connection, and creating opportunities for freedom in every form. “CagedBird with an ED, because we are longer caged we’ve been free!”

Bashiri , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
One thing I’m most proud of—where everything I do stems from—is the pride I take in making an impact. My brand, my business, my services, and my work all come from that same foundation: being a difference-maker. Whether it’s through my creative expression, my advocacy for equality, or my work as a mentor and event curator, my goal is always to uplift and connect.
I play a major role in 10K Productions, helping turn ideas into reality for those who have a vision but aren’t sure how to make it happen. Whether it’s making graphic designs, making flyers, promoting various platforms on my own, digital marketing, giving people a stage to express themselves, showcasing visual artists, or forming partnerships that strengthen the community, I’m dedicated to creating opportunities for others. I’ve always been an advocate—whether for equality, ADHD awareness, or underrepresented communities—because I believe true progress happens when we unify. And unity starts with communication.
That’s why I pour my message into everything I do—music, poetry, hosting, drumming, and beyond. It’s all about expression. Every beat, every word, every event is a vessel for connection. And that’s what sets me apart.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Honestly, there have been so many times I’ve had to pivot—because that’s just how life, business, and careers work. But one of the biggest challenges I faced was when I had three events booked at a venue over a single weekend, and the day before the first one, I got a call that the venue had been sold. No refunds, no backup plan—just me, my events, and a major problem to solve.
It was a gut-wrenching moment. I had artists, performers, vendors, and attendees all counting on me, and suddenly, I was left with nothing—no space, no time, and no clear way forward. I felt the weight of all the planning, the investments, the expectations. For a moment, it felt impossible. But instead of panicking, I made calls, sent messages, and reached out to every connection I had. Some venues were booked, others were out of budget, and some just weren’t the right fit. The clock was ticking, and the stress was real, but I refused to let everything fall apart. Finally, within four hours, I secured a new space. Then came the next challenge—spreading the word. I had to redesign flyers, update promotional materials, and make sure everyone knew about the change. I barely had time to breathe, but I kept pushing, making sure every detail was handled. By the time the weekend was over, all three events went off successfully, and no one even realized the last-minute chaos behind the scenes.
That experience wasn’t just a lesson in adaptability—it reinforced my passion and my dedication to what I do. Whether I’m hosting, curating, or performing, I refuse to let obstacles define the outcome. Doors will close, challenges will come, but if you stay committed to your vision, the right opportunity will always open.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Funny story—I actually started building my audience back in high school. My original account wasn’t even about artistry at first; it was just me having conversations. I talked about things I saw in society, issues that mattered, and people engaged because those conversations weren’t being had enough. Before I ever stepped into the creative space, my words were what drew people in.
When I eventually started sharing my artistry, it was a natural transition because people were already connected to me for my perspective. But then, I lost my personal page—the one that held years of memories, connections, and creative expression. The only page I had left was my 10K Productions business account, which, thankfully, was still a reflection of my art. Rebuilding my audience from there has been an ongoing process, and I’ve had to put in real footwork to keep people engaged—not just with my business, but with me as a person.
What helped most was staying true to who I am, both online and in person. I focus on creating a space for real conversations, making people feel connected—not just to my content, but to the experience I create. When people see and feel your authenticity in real life, they’re more likely to follow and stay engaged online.
My advice? Be yourself. Don’t chase trends or try to please the masses—opinions change daily. Instead, ask yourself: What do I stand for? What do I have to say? And most importantly, how can I make it valuable to others? If you stay authentic, your audience will find you.
