We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jenn Kautsch. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jenn below.
Jenn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
It all began in my mid 40’s when I KNEW I wanted to ‘show up’ at age 50 different than I did the big 4-0. I had several areas of my life I wanted to up level and experience more alignment towards my best self. I knew I couldn’t change everything all at once so I decided to start with my wine o’clock habit. I was sober curious but didn’t feel physically addicted…I was stuck in the detox to retox loop. Mindful and super healthy by day only to “mindlessly sip” in the evenings to socialize or take the edge off. Once I began learning the science behind alcohol, my eyes opened and I felt more empowered to make different choices. I wanted to share what was/is working for me with more women so it was a defining moment to begin what has now become a vibrant community of thousands of women from all over the world- called SoberSis (short for SoberMinded Sisterhood)

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I support women who want to drink less or not at all…which may be a desire for a variety of reasons. Since going on my own sober curious journey, I’ve learned that there’s a full drinking spectrum and people drink for A LOT of different reasons. In fact, I’m passionate about bringing more awareness and understanding to what is known as the “gray area” of drinking. “Gray area drinking” describes alcohol consumption that falls between social drinking and potential alcohol use disorder (AUD), often characterized by habitual but potentially unhealthy drinking habits without overt signs of dependence. I bring a holistic approach to addresses one’s relationship with alcohol. It’s said that connection is the antidote to addiction and I’ve seen that firsthand. I think that’s what makes my coaching and our community different…we call connection our “secret sauce” because it’s easy to alone or isolated in this gray area. For years, I was asking myself the wrong question, “Is it bad enough?” The answer was always NO based on the comparison trap. But when I asked myself the right question, “Jenn, is it GOOD enough?” Is it really serving you?” The answer was also NO. There’s no need for labels, judgment, shame or rules but rather curiosity, discovery and a growth mindset. In SoberSis, we support each other in the journey and focus less on abstinence or sobriety but more on being sober minded: awake, alert, aware and present in our own lives.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
It’s one thing to stop drinking, it’s a whole other thinking to figure out WHY you were drinking in the first place. It’s even another thing to then help others take their own “hero’s journey”. Honestly, starting my own business and then creating a non-profit from it have been the most challenging and rewarding work of my life. (except for raising teenagers-lol)

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been sharing real life stories, mainly my own, on social media and as a guest on different media outlets. (primarily podcasts) We spend a good amount on paid/sponsored ads through Meta and Google just to get the word out about our amazing sisterhood!
