We were lucky to catch up with Sydney V. Smith recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sydney V. , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Candle making is an art form to me. I don’t paint or draw on canvases, instead I do it on my candles. I can transform a plain looking pillar candle and make it into an art piece. With my signature glitter style, I especially love to use ancient Egyptian art with my candles. I also do this with my candle jars. I transform the most ugliest plain looking jars into art pieces . Now that I know I can, I plan on doing some very innovative art projects with my candles this year.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I formed my business, “Verucaz,” out of my love for the occult, mysticism, metaphysics, law of attraction, and healing. A long the way I became a candle maker because I wanted a signature line for my store. So I thought candles would be a great start. I love candles and have a passion for them! I feel as a candle maker, I am also a light worker. In a sense that I bring light into people’s homes. Nothing like the way candles make a home feel so cozy and magical. And we can create magic with a candle, just by setting an intention. Which is called “candle magick.” The magick is your intention. According to the laws of manifestation, you must think positively in order to attract more of what you want. For this reason I like to create different candles people can enjoy and also help with their intentions. Such as a money candle to help with money. Protection candles for protection etc. Many of our candles are made with crystals to help enhance your intentions.

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
I learned the art of candle making on my own as well as manufacturing. Everything I sell is handmade by me only. No employees yet. When I develop a new candle, I spend a month or more testing it first. I’m such a perfectionist I like to make sure my candles burn perfectly so that my clients keep coming back.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe my marketing style is how I build my reputation within my market. Since I am the spokesperson of my brand. Which means I have complete creative control too. Therefore, I do a lot of creative video making with my products that help get me noticed. A short 10 minute film is in the works as well. To be released in the fall.
